Don't move to Muslim country. Your called to pray every hour, every day in all directions. A few times a week imo is lovely. Reminds me of my childhood

Getitwright · 17/11/2024 10:28

I think the OP sadly has larger issues than church bells. Hope resolution and help will improve things. I love church bells, and cockerels, they are part of our countryside heritage.

Livelovebehappy · 17/11/2024 10:28

That’s on you then. If you didn’t research the area you were mov8ngvto, and didn5 notice the church (most churches have bells), then that comes under the banner ‘too bad, suck it up’. I can’t imagine that the circumstances you refer to means you can only live within a mile radius of the church.

The OP is in a hostel and had no choice where she lived.

Livelovebehappy · 17/11/2024 10:29

And try living near a Mosque. Friday afternoons are awful with amplified calls on loud speak coming from them.

crumblingschools · 17/11/2024 10:30

@Livelovebehappy don’t think the OP had much choice in researching the area when she was placed in a hostel

Can you embrace the ethereal sounds? Join the bell ringers?

Buy some noise cancelling headphones if it bothers you that much Anker Soundcore one on Amazon are great and regularly go down to £35

Hi

Does it block all sound or is there a way to , say, watch the TV whilst wearing them but blocking out noisy arse neighbours sound ?
TIA

Ah don't be that guy- I can't imagine you get a positive response from anyone doing this.
Infer from context like the rest of us.

Well this I assume is a temporary situation until permanent accommodation is found.

crumblingschools · 17/11/2024 10:31

@Livelovebehappy doesn’t excuse your first post though

Vaxtable · 17/11/2024 10:32

one will be Sunday service, one is practising. Church was there well before you, and whilst you have said you had no choice I suggest you contact whoever is sorting your accommodation and ask to move

Another example of why this country is fast going to the dogs. You are being totally unreasonable.

Switcher · 17/11/2024 10:34

Seems like a you problem

Ah ok, I was going to make a sarky comment but it's not about the church bells if you're in a hostel. You're in a highly stressful situation and just feeling on edge.

If you can at all, try to detach from your annoyance with the church bells. They're not going anywhere (and yes it's reasonable that they ring), and you feeling irritated every time is only going to make things harder for you. You have enough on your plate I suspect. Flowers

This is a really kind and nice response.

OP I chose YABU but after reading you had no choice, and you are likely already stressed out, I do feel for You.

Hopefully you will be rehoused soon.

I understand why people are saying that bell ringing is part of our tradition but times change. The number of people going to church is getting smaller and smaller so the bell ringing isn't representing the whole community like it used to.

Just because something has been done for years and years doesn't make it ok.

Also, I wonder if the this thread would have received the same replies if it was a different religions place of worship that was making the noise.

Nowadays bellringing isn't necessarily anything to do with religion. Plenty of ringers never go to church, they ring because they enjoy it. It is difficult and challenging, but very rewarding when you get it right; and it's also quite a nice way to get to know people in your area. They ring for services as a sort of quid pro quo to the church for letting them use their bells.

If you're going to object to bellringing because a few people don't like it, then logically you should object to, for instance, big sports matches which are way more inconvenient for people in the area of the relevant sports grounds.

The simple fact is that we should live and let live. Most people like the sound of bells which usually are only rung for quite short periods anyway, and in general it's very easy to avoid if you don't like it.

Gettingbysomehow · 17/11/2024 10:34

Church bells are part of this country's traditions. If you hate them dont live near a church. This sounds like my new neighbour from London who wants me to cut my trees down because they attract noisy birds (quiet Somerset village)
I said absolutely not and get evils everytime I run into her.

People have been moaning that the country is fast going to the dogs for centuries. Strange that it has never reached them.

Dishwashersaurous · 17/11/2024 10:37

I think posters do get that op is in a really difficult situation, and is in a hostel.

However, rather than appreciation that she has a roof over her head she's moaning about a really normal part of life.

It may well be that she's channelling her understandable distress at her situation into something external.

But the church bells are fine and not the problem

Are you getting help for your anxiety?

What sort of help do you suggest the OP gets? Her GP may prescribe medication but, if she is in temporary accommodation, it may be that she doesn’t have a GP.

The best help for her anxiety would be to move into permanent accommodation. I would be anxious if I were living in a hostel.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 17/11/2024 10:41

Sorry @Isxmasoveryet but you are being unreasonable.

I suspect your current situation is the reason this is aggravating you so much and I am sorry things are complicated for you. But it does feel like you are lashing out at things that deflect from your problems.

Purplebunnie · 17/11/2024 10:42

Unfortunately the need to practice so that when their (usually Christian) congregation have an event they are perfect. Wouldn't want to be a bride exiting the church when the bell ringers cock it up

HelenWheels · 17/11/2024 10:42

i hope you manage to come to terms with the bell ringing op
