Work colleague was off for 2 weeks because she had minor surgery (skin graft) and Monday she’s back at work. Thought it be nice to get her something but can’t really think what but apart from card/flowers any ideas? We work together same department

Keep it simple. Body lotion, hand cream, fancy shower gel and/or a box of quality chocolates?

Not body lotion or shower gel if she's had a skin graft (unless it's on her face). How much do you want to spend?

Flowers in the office is a bit much; draws everyone’s attention for the day, and a faff to get home unless she parks on-site. A discreet giftbag is better.

I’d have quite liked some posh ready meals or a delivery voucher if she’s somewhere near restaurants so that she can put her feet up. I get that others might think you bringing in a Charlie Bigham lasagne into work might sound weird - different if you’re more friends than colleagues, close enough to pop over to her house while she’s off to say we’re all thinking of you.

Oh ignore me, she’s coming back on Monday. I think you’ve missed the boat, to be honest. Office cake for tea break to welcome her back, flowers at a push.

I don’t think I have as how could we have got her something when she was hospital/recovering at home after surgery?

I think flowers are fine. If you are desk based you could get her a plant for her desk. You could get her a voucher for a nearby coffee shop ?

Do you know what op? I was out of the office for six weeks earlier this year after an op, and several colleagues made a point of stopping me and asking how I was. One male colleague who is lovely but quite reserved, stopped me and told me it was lovely to have me back and he hoped I was doing well.

It really touched me. Perhaps just show that you missed the person and get them a coffee the morning they come back. It's the small things that make the difference.

Flowers. I think that's good.
