We can't extend atm, so trying to move walls around.
Bathroom is tiny, so main priority for space. Currently has a stand up/sit down bath and would like a standard ome instead.

Different views with DH on how to best use space.

Left bathroom wall can't be moved.
Orange shaded hallway outside bathroom is tiny.
How can you move things around to get a decent bathroom and kitchen.

YABU - space is too small to jig around.
YANBU - Lots of options??

Thanks.

Could you get a toilet and sink installed in the storage space to give you more room for a decent bath/shower in the bathroom?

thisisntmybeautifulhouse · 16/11/2024 13:18

Can you add space by moving the bath wall into the kitchen a bit more? Then knocking the hall storage down and incorporating it into the kitchen? You would be left with a narrow cupboard space to hang up coats.

Thank you.

That's DH's plan but I don't like that there's no window and bathroom would still be tiny and seperate.

Thank you.

Interesting that both comments are what each of us want.

I'm for moving the bathroom wall to just before the left sink. Move sink to the right ,knock down the kitchen hall & storage As well as the main storage wall .

I’d look to move the right hand bathroom wall further in to the kitchen space if you’re really looking to expand the bathroom, maybe if you post the whole floor plan of the ground floor it would easier to see where to put things.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 16/11/2024 14:59

@Wittyname10 , thanks. Have posted.
Other rooms are on the small side too.

Thanks.

Turn bathroom / central storage / leftt-hand-side of kitchen into bathroom, ensuite, cloakroom.
Turn right-hand-side of kitchen / rear hall / rear storage / sun room into kitchen diner.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 16/11/2024 15:39

Thank you @senua , not sure but thinking thickness of black lines/wall to sun room means they're not movable....

OP posts:
Wittyname10 · 16/11/2024 16:03

Thanks for that, wall between kitchen and sun room will be external so a big job to move.

I’d take the middle storage cupboard out completely.

The wall between kitchen and bathroom I’d move further in to the kitchen to give you a bigger bathroom and the kitchen can be reshuffled all along the new wall and use the sun room as a dining area.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 16/11/2024 16:11

Rehang bathroom door to open outwards. Move sink to left of door. Have all the right wall free for a longer bath. No walls need moved.

senua · 16/11/2024 16:12

Which way is north? The kitchen has only got one window so I'm wondering how gloomy it is in there.

Also, your current facilities seem to be the only ones in the house but there seems to be a trend these days to require two loos. At the least, think about separating the bathroom and the loo.

Franklet · 16/11/2024 16:17

What are the measurements of the bathroom? It might be reconfigurable to fit a full size bath without moving any walls.

senua · 16/11/2024 16:27

While you are reconfiguring I would think about getting access to/from the kitchen directly off the hall instead of only off the lounge.

CompCity · 16/11/2024 16:32

Is it a bungalow? Would someone ever want to do a loft conversion?

How old are you? WFH? Kids? Lots of visitors?
How much do you use the garden & backdoor?

Turn lounge into second bedroom/spare room/study.
Brick up front door turn corridor into sink and loo inbetween bedrooms.
Turn back bedroom into spacious bathroom with bath, seperate shower.

Make sunroom entrance your new front door, through beautifully landscaped paved courtyard.
Lots of storage for coats etc, table and chairs plants, step into kitchen area, more wall space by blocking off lounge entrance, smash out central storage core, turn current bathroom area into a snug, comfy sofa and tv. Use big kitchen and sunroom for entertaining & daytime, less public areas - bedrooms, bathrooms and snug away from front door.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 16/11/2024 16:46

Thank you all.

@Wittyname10 , the sun room has a dining table, but also a big sofa and big armchair which just about fit as it isnt big either.

@MaryLennoxsScowl , good idea with the door, but would mean walking into sink?

@senua ,it's quite light as the kitchen window is big and there's a small velux above. Other door opens into the sun room which helps.

Get you about the one loo, but torn between having a seperate one as not a fan of the only bathroom having no loo.

Good shout about access to the kitchen.
In two minds about shutting off the entrance through the living room.

Gosh, wish I had the mind for it all.

Bathroom is 80 x 2.14m / 5'11"x70". Think it might just about fit, but no space for moving around.

OP posts:
MouldyCandy · 16/11/2024 17:05

If your 2.14m length is up/down can't you swap your bath and basin? This is the configuration we have.

Any home designers please?
Treesandsheepeverywhere · 16/11/2024 17:12

Thank you @CompCity ,

It is a bungalow but would cost a lot to go up for us.
Gosh my head is spinning at the suggestions (in a good way).
Great to hear it has potential and all the possibilities.
Luckily there's an outbuilding for wfh.
Don't entertain a lot, no kids and late 40's.

Livingroom has a fireplace which would be a shame to lose and wouldn't blocking off the front door require planning permission?

OP posts:
Treesandsheepeverywhere · 16/11/2024 17:21

Thank you @MouldyCandy .

Our door opens to the right & touches the bath at a 45° angle.
So quite tight.

Wouldn't so tight with a smaller sink.

OP posts:
MouldyCandy · 16/11/2024 17:31

Sorry. I've just measured and my bathroom is 1.4 x 2.7m. I don't think you'll fit my suggestion in. For a 1.8m bath, it needs to run along your 1.8m end and move the toilet to the left wall.
Your alternative is to swap your existing bath for a lovely big shower.

ConfusedBear · 16/11/2024 17:32

How long is the stand up / sit down bath? And how long a normal bath would you like?

A standard bath is around 1600mm so one would fit without moving walls.

In a similar bathroom we put the sink on the wall on the right as you go in. Toilet under the window and then a walk in shower and a short bath along the long wall. It actually feels quite spacious which surprises people given the size of the house.

I did draw the bathroom out on squared paper to check what would fit and carefully read the clearance guidelines on the bathroom suite websites though.

ElfAndSafetyBored · 16/11/2024 17:37

It depends how much money you have to do it, as surely your plan would cost more as you’d have to re-do the kitchen as well? Maybe that needs doing anyway?

For what it is worth, our bathroom is tiny - full size bath (with great electric shower over) and sink only. The toilet (with little hand basin) is across the landing with the stairs inbetween so we cannot knock them together. It would not have been my first choice but has actually worked out brilliantly as I have very long baths and people can still use the toilet.

noctilucentcloud · 16/11/2024 17:39

My bathroom is almost the same size, couple of cm smaller in each direction. My bath is along the 1.80 m wall (so equivalent of your window wall) and the sink and toilet go on one of the walls 90 degrees to that. I also have an outward opening door, although that is because of wheelchair turning space rather than there not being room in the bathroom if the door opened inwards.
