Nice customers! They do exist

Inspired by the thread about nasty customers yelling at staff. Yes, it happens a lot but the good far outweighs the bad. Can we have a positive thread about nice customers?

This morning I had a very distressed lady who had realised she lost her purse at the checkout, her baby was wailing and her older disabled child was experiencing a meltdown, and the couple behind paid for her £125 shop and helped her to her car.

A few weeks ago a car died in the carpark, and the mechanic from the garage down the road was in for his lunch. He stopped and gave them a free jumpstart.

We also have a family who regularly does large shops for the local food/toy banks.

It's heartwarming.

Do you get nice customers in your shop?

Yabu- no, they're all arseholes
Yanbu- yes, obviously there are still nice people out there

I'd hate it if I was the lady in your first example and recognised myself and realised you'd decided to chat about me on the Internet.

Foxybyname · 16/11/2024 14:55

@banananapancake You read the OP, and your thought was the above?? Really?

Oh dear.

"What a sad little life Jane. You have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on"

Great examples OP of the nicer side of humanity. Hope other posters come with loads more.

banananapancake · 16/11/2024 15:12

@Foxybyname yes because I've been in that lady's shoes and I'd feel so embarrassed if someone decided to use me as part of some sort of heart warming story

Redgreenred10 · 16/11/2024 15:12

when I left school I worked in a cafe, this man was going mad at me because we had run out of a coke he always had and seemed to think we should have kept one back for him.
Little old lady had a right pop at him and actually got him to apologise to me. Never seen anyone walk of more meekly this man. He still came in regularly but never had a go again.

I told her she was amazing and gave her a cup of tea for free (we were allowed to give so many a day).

Redgreenred10 · 16/11/2024 15:12

Not coke meant cake

But it's completely anonymous, she gave no identifying information at all! You're being over sensitive tbh.

There aren't going to be too many people that happened to today

Given the vastness of the planet I don't think it's likely to be so unique tbh. Sorry to cause any offense though. If possible though I'd like to get back to the purpose of my thread rather than derail it with an ethics debate. Thank you x

So what? Unless the lady is wearing a t-shirt with her story emblazoned on it, no-one - not one single, teeny tiny person - will know she forgot her purse! Forgot her purse btw, not strangled a puppy with her own hands.

I bet you're a barrel of laughs 🙄

DelilahBucket · 16/11/2024 15:23

99.9% of my customers are lovely. I had a great Google review with photos of a custom order this week. It really warmed my heart.

Well so what? The OP didn't say anything derogatory about the woman who lost her purse, she just described what happened in a very neutral way. Losing your purse is nothing to be embarrassed about, but even if it were the OP hasn't given any identifying information.

Really don't get what your problem is with this.

If your facts are accurate then it's not the planet it's just somewhere with £. X

Still a rather large population, @banananapancake . I am big on privacy but I am with OP on this one.

DillyDallyingAllDay · 16/11/2024 15:30

It's me it's me! I don't care that I was part of OPs heartwarming story. 🙄🙄🙄

And? I just said I would hate it.

Anyway I don't have a nice customer story but I have a nice member of staff story. I bought a load of reduced tins for the food bank and they told me to leave the tins on the side and they'd put time all in the tiny little pokey box for me. That was nice I thought.

Years ago I was out having breakfast with my lad at the local spoons and a customer came and swiped her card quick as a flash without any warning, she said it was because I always look after everyone that comes in so I deserve a little pay back.

Another customer gave me a voucher to get my nails done for my wedding.

The customers that give us envelopes of cash as Christmas tips/bonus.

The customers that you watch deteriorate from a life limiting disease until you are attending their funeral and you finally meet family members who tell you that the person always had such lovely things to say about how we helped care for him and he thought the world of us.

The customers that give emergency lifts to the A&E.

The customers that bring in hand knitted items for new baby arrivals.

I could literally keep going. Good customers outweigh the bad all the time.
