Any suggestions please? I'm really struggling!
She doesn't really read.
No internet.
She has a very limited diet.
She doesn't need clothing or accessories.
It has to be postable within the UK.

AIBU for traffic.

Thanks.

She wouldn't go for afternoon tea (though I would love that myself).
Nibbles are limited due to diet but there are a few local things she likes, which I might put together.
I'm not sure about shower gel tbh - she tends to just display the nice stuff (although maybe that's ok if that's what she wants to do?).
Thanks.

Does she have a garden or outdoor space for pots? A relative gave my mum 80 spring bulbs for her 80th and they gave her a lot of pleasure. She had a gardener for mowing the lawn every couple of weeks and he planted them for her.

She's got a garden but not sure there's any space left tbh. That's a lovely idea though. 💐

A lap tray with a beanbag cushion attached and an electric heated seat pad - good for soothing aches.

Lap tray may be hard to post but otherwise a good idea!

Does she do the garden herself? If so, the latest must-have for gardeners is a hori-hori knife.

ZekeZeke · 16/11/2024 10:43

Is she religious?

fairislecable · 16/11/2024 10:49

A really lovely hand cream or body lotion or facial moisturiser nice scent etc.

Glass nail file and nail oil/cream.

St Eval scented candles with a pretty box of long matches.

Beautiful soap, washcloth and shower cap.

Buy the best most luxurious things you can afford as these will be things she won’t treat herself to.

PenGold · 16/11/2024 10:54

I haven’t read the full thread but suggest a photo book (obviously dependent on you having photos to fill it!), a lovely blanket, slippers, cashmere wrist warmers or a voucher for you both for a lunch or afternoon tea.

Passthecake30 · 16/11/2024 10:55

M&S voucher

caringcarer · 16/11/2024 11:12

She'd probably appreciate a visit more than a gift. As people get older they seem to have everything but often lack company. I know my elderly Aunties used to love it when I visited them and spent time reminiscing about when I was a child and they took me to lots of nice places.

harriethoyle · 16/11/2024 11:17

If she wears a particular scent what about products in that range? I’m just looking at the Chanel allure body lotion for mil who wears that perfume.

Not really, she's not really able.

A visit isn't an option just now, but I take your point.

Cashmere gloves, scarf or hat
Sheepskin slippers
Sheepskin hot water bottle cover
Scented candle, candle snuffer, wick trimmer, candle lighter
Puzzle magazine subscription
Photographic history book of her hometown
Earrings, brooch, charm bracelet (the gift idea that keeps on giving, you can send new charms every year 😂)

Purse or bus pass holder (my DM loves her Liberty print bus pass holder that she got in her stocking 😂)

NoCarbsForMe · 17/11/2024 10:26

My dad is a similar age. I have got him a heated throw, a patio heater (he sits out with the neighbours for a drink) alcohol, a torch that is also a radio and is clockwork and solar powered, I got it in case of power cuts be he has used it a lot.

I bought theatre tickets and he came to visit me to go see the show.

Could you buy an afternoon tea and then take her? Maybe in the summer?

Other things I have got my dad are linked to WWII. A sponsor a spitfire, a manual for a sopworth camel, advice given to US soldiers stationed in the UK.

Oh I also got him a small air fryer.

caramac04 · 17/11/2024 13:09

I’ve bought a Laura Ashley notebook and pen plus matching design tin of mini hand cream, body lotion for a similar aged lady.
Her sight is poor now and she’s not very mobile but keeps a pen and paper by the phone.
I got them from Boots and will post them. Not too heavy or fragile.

DeliciousApples · 17/11/2024 19:07

Does she have a smart tv, if not get a fire stick?

Does she have a crossword puzzle subscription? Lovatts do them for lots of puzzle books monthly and six weekly or whatever. (check my spelling though) My mum looks forward to them. Gives her a lot of pleasure to hear them dropping through the letterbox!

PS if your worried about posting stuff as it's difficult to wrap or whatever, just buy it on eBay as it'll come in the post to you packaged or boxed up, open and check it, remove the price tag or receipt, gift wrap reseal it and post it to her.

LilacLilyBird · 17/11/2024 19:49

Silk scarf

levantine · 17/11/2024 19:51

Cashmere wristwarmers from Turtle Doves. Chocolates. Clarins hand cream or shower gel

aramox1 · 18/11/2024 03:27

Not hand cream, ornaments or wrist warmers. Every woman over 50 has stacks of them. Something that comes regularly or involves company /experience/entertainment. Food-posher versions of her normal stuff.

sashh · 18/11/2024 04:30

Oh I forgot I also got my dad a couple of coins. I keep suggesting them on threads bout gifts, I really should get myself commission.

Brilliant uncirculated from the royal mint, my dad can, like your relative, remember having a king before now. Maybe a sixpence?
