Children watching TV all day

I have norovirus, is it unreasonable if my children watch tv all day without leaving the house? I'm struggling! Any advice or words of encouragement will be very very welcome!

DS learnt a lot from children’s television.

I’m not a natural teacher and he picked up loads from shows like Numberjacks.

Don’t feel guilty. Make a snuggly pyjama day of it. Have pizza and cocoa.

Just do it. You've got to look after yourself. I grew up on TV!

ChocolateTelephone · 16/11/2024 06:39

It’s absolutely fine. I’ve done this too when I’ve been ill - with something like norovirus it’s about nothing more than survival!

Hope you feel better soon.

Kingofthetyrantlizards · 16/11/2024 06:57

Nope, it's absolutely fine. My DC is currently ill, so that's probably our plan for the day, too.

Caspianberg · 16/11/2024 07:07

No, it’s fine.
I don’t see the problem at all in tv tbh.
Yes on a day to day basis in an ideal world you limit by naturally doing other things, outside etc. but it’s doing nobody any favours you struggling when ill when kids are fine just having a chilled weekend occasionally when they just do stuff at home.
If that’s more tv and biscuits for 2 days then so be it.

Jifmicroliquid · 16/11/2024 07:09

Norovirus is hell. Do what you need to do.

Ellie1015 · 16/11/2024 07:13

Of course it is ok. Watching tv all day regularly might be an issue but as a one off absolutely fine for any reason. Norovirus is a very good reason. Get well soon.

We've been the same this week we've all had it one after the other, it's not a normal week and tbh they're clean and fed. That's the best I can do when I can barely stand without fainting!

Haha yes, I've got the fainting feeling when standing up too. And my stomach has been turning every time I make food for the children.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies, I'm feeling a little less guilty!

My children have all watched tv all day at some point.
My eldest actually watched CBEEBIES from the time it started to the time it finished for several weeks whilst my husband was on 12 hour shifts, when I was heavily pregnant with my second because I was so ill and couldn't move much and it was half term.
He's 9 now and a sweet intelligent boy with a variety of interests. Only allowed screens for an hour on Friday and Saturday eves. And doesn't ask for more.

So yeah I think it's fine.
Me and DH joke that my eldest, who is the kindest and most thoughtful of our kids, is that way due to being raised by CBEEBIES lmao.

If they're under four then I'd suggest asking someone to help you today so you can get some real rest in!

CrispieCake · 16/11/2024 08:03

Hierarchy of needs. Make sure they're safe, warm and fed. Fresh air/enrichment can wait until you're better.

drowninginsick · 16/11/2024 08:04

If it was your whole life yes it would be concerning and detrimental but it isn't in our house and doesn't sound like it is in your house either. Get well soon Flowers

TherapyFrog · 16/11/2024 12:04

This is a one off situation that happens rarely, it's not going to do damage. You need to be well.

My LO is unwell and looks/feels awful so we're doing a solid week of inside time, TV, some drawing, card games etc but if I was sick it'd just be TV and whatever she could entertain herself with!
