Help me dress my daughter

Hi all, just looking for a bit of advice. I'm a pretty plain jane dresser - not exactly influenced by fashion, more of a jeans, jumper, trainers girl. I really struggle at times to dress my girl. I see other Mum's dressing their kids for semi fancy occasions such as birthday parties etc and I just don't seem to have it. I see lovely dress and converse combinations for these events and they look fab but something makes me always want to do a dress and a wee ballet pump style shoe because I always think what I pick looks ridiculous.

Please post your combos (childs face missing if wanting to) as I just feel lost.

Much appreciated 😁

If you struggle have a look on a website such as next where they often put all the outfit information at the side, makes it easier to add it all to your basket.

You didn’t mention the age of your daughter? Is it everyday outfits you want inspiration for or just party/special occasion?

How old is your daughter? Does she care what she wears?? My daughter is 7 and is happy with a bit of sparkle for a party but also just likes being comfy and clothes she can cartwheel in. Yes I’m sure some parents spend a lot of time and effort putting outfits together for their kids to look a certain way but honestly when they’re young enough to be dressed by their parents, I really don’t think they need to look Like mini models. Just let them be kids. Take her shopping and let her choose some stuff. Mine loves jumpsuits and flared leggings at the moment. There’s always loads of converse on Vinted too.

Do you have a family member or a close friend who is interested in fashion? It would be great if you had a niece who was a bit older so you could say I want to spend £x unclosed for my daughter. Can you help?

Thanks for replies, I've had a look on next and got some good ideas so thats great thanks. Yes she is particular about what she wears especially materials, tights etc but it's more for dresses and pairing with converse and some every day wear but always happy to wear leggings and a top and that I don't care about but christenings, school friends parties etc I need to give a bit of guidance for and obviously give her a selection to chose from.

I totally get what you’re saying — it can be hard to dress kids for events like birthdays when you’re not into fashion yourself. What’s worked for me is pairing a soft, colorful dress with either Converse or cute ballet pumps—comfortable but still dressy.
If you’re looking for ideas, dresses for girls on Modest clothing are great. They are ethnic, stylish, and perfect for semi-fancy occasions. Might be worth a look!”

Dresses might be the way to go as it’s just one item then, no mixing and matching necessary.

If you haven’t got converse and that’s the look you are aiming for, then buy those first. Red are the classic colour and will still go with winter clothes as well as summer ones.

Then, when you are getting clothes, try to stick with ones that have whatever colour the converse are.

If you think she is wearing leggings all of the time and you want her to look a bit smarter you could try treggings.

I feel like you may be overthinking if you are worried about your child looking ridiculous and are asking others to post pictures of their kids? Don't project any anxieties onto your child.

Since you asked how others do it. My DD is 6 and has a bunch of dresses as this is what she likes (I mostly buy from mini boden sale, she also has some from other places gifted by relatives) a pair of pumps, a pair of sandals and some school shoes. She picks what she wears everyday, and doesn't really dress differently for everyday or for parties (ie she wears her party type dresses whenever she feels like it, with tights in winter and without tights in summer). It wouldn't occur to me to worry about her looking ridiculous as long as she is happy!

Also, I think at that age it is fine for her to go around in leggings and t-shirt if that is what she wants. For a Christening/wedding yes she would have to be smarter, but for regular kids birthday parties something clean that she is happy in is fine. I would just be led by what she wants rather than worrying about putting her in converse or whatever.
