To want to silently leave my job? Without a fuss

Handing my notice in next week. I’m just generally unhappy been there over a year and everyone is very clicky there all friends outside work. They all give eachother promotions it’s hideous. If I hand my notice in they will make a big fuss to make themselves feel better about the shitty people they are. Buying gifts or arrange a leaving do. I want to just work my notice and leave.

How do I communicate this in the nicest way possible?

What’s your notice period? Any chance you’ll be put on gardening leave or be paid in lieu?

3 months! I don’t think so I can’t imagine that they would.

How much holiday have you got left? Just take the last week off and not mention it.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 15/11/2024 13:26

Be honest about your reasons for leaving at a party will be the last thing on their minds Wink

This. Otherwise submit resignation as you should, don't mention it to others (if other staff spread the word that's on them) and if there's mention of leaving dos etc just say that you'd rather not - they can have a drink on their first day without you and drown their sorrows!

Actually, when you submit your resignation, make it clear you want it kept confidential.

Beenaboutabit · 15/11/2024 13:32

I’ve just resigned and in my resignation letter specifically wrote that I’d like to leave quietly without a farewell party or collection. It reflects my preferences rather than because I don’t like my colleagues. I just don’t like being the centre of attention.
Maybe just clarify in your resignation what you (don’t) want to happen.

I did this once, so that my leaving date was Christmas eve, as it was generally a half day and every was busy with their own things, so I could sneak off quietly. Probably too late for you now unless they would accept a shorter notice period.
