Parking

I've lived on a terraced street for 5 years and parking is occasionally difficult but nothing major I've learned to live with it! There's approx 15 spaces and if there is no space you have to park quite a way.

I've never really struggled up until this last month. Our neighbours are having work done to their house, looks like a building site inside so they have numerous workmen there. With the workmen and there big vans etc obviously takes up quite a chunk of spaces and made it even more difficult to park, however I've not batted an eyelid at this.. whilst the builders are there of course.. it's when they are not there that I'm getting annoyed at. when the workmen are finished for the day, I don't know who it is, the workmen or the neighbours but they are putting wheelie bins & wheelbarrows in the way to stop people parking there and it takes over approx 4 car spaces !! Tonight, I couldn't get a space and it's really pissed me off! Yes it's annoying for the workmen if they can't park outside there but it's also annoying not having anywhere to park because of a wheelie bin.. the workmen are there from 8-4pm so from 4pm onwards approx 4 spaces are wasted. Would this annoy anyone else ??? My partner moved them tonight and parked there.. I hate confrontation so I'm nervous about tomorrow!

Just move them?

sassyx · 14/11/2024 20:59

@Gcn as mentioned my partner did tonight. Just wondering if anyone else would do the same and if they would be annoyed. Not really sure how to go about this with the neighbours.

Definitely move them. No big drama!

Eenameenadeeka · 15/11/2024 08:39

No thats rediculous, definitely move them.

BillStickersWillBeProsocuted · 15/11/2024 08:43

yeah I would move them too

I'm quite un-mumsnetty in that I think it's ok to "reserve" a space like this on very rare occasion for somethink like a skip delivery or on the day you're moving house and need space for a truck - but to try to do it every day is a huge piss take. It's a public road!

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 15/11/2024 08:47

Will they, like most workmen doing big jobs, leave out a sign afterwards in the hope that the neighbours will see it, admire their work and then give them lots more work?

If so, they've rather shot themselves in the foot...

That's breath-takingly selfish behaviour. They're clearly just seeing it as their workplace, paying no regard to the obvious fact that it's other people's homes too.

shellyleppard · 15/11/2024 08:48

If its a public road there is no guaranteed parking space....for anyone. As previous posters have said reserving space for a skip is fine, but blocking space for builders van??? Nah they should take their chances like everyone else

sassyx · 15/11/2024 14:25

@BillStickersWillBeProsocuted 100% agree with you there! Completely fine on those occasions. This has been going on for weeks now and last night was the final straw for me!

@TheHangingGardensOfBasildon yup!! The big sign of the company has been there since the work started. I agree completely selfish!!

@shellyleppard yes, public road which is why I'm so annoyed they think they have the right to reserve all those spaces. Agree with skip and reserving for perhaps a day to help move out/in as a PP suggested but every day for the last month takes the mick! Especially as you said when every day the rest of us are out here taking our chances!

Thanks everyone glad Its not just me that this would annoy 🤣

@sassyx it would drive me absolutely batshit 😂😂😂 and yes I would be having a word with the builders!!! 😂😂

SinnerBoy · 15/11/2024 15:02

Your OH has done the best and entirely acceptable thing. The builders were taking the piss! We sometimes get removal men, who give out cones to people moving. The form is to knock round the neighbours and tell them what time it'll be and everyone respects it.

Apart from some selfish sod, who moved them and parked anyway, once.
