I have worked in another school in a long term role before and never had to run assembly. This new school has put me onto the rota without even asking me and warning me? Can they do that? I hate running assemblies I’m okay with my own class but can’t do too many people and adults. Hence why I would never see myself going higher than a teacher in a school setting.

I also had permanent roles before and never had to run assembly.

Usually SLT.
I had to.do an assembly for 3 classes on a supply day but that's the only school I.have ever come across it.

I've had to do assemblies in every school I've worked at (I'm primary). Long term supply I would expect to be added to the rota, otherwise all the other teachers have to do more than their fair share. Long term supply have all the same day to day responsibilities don't they?

have you worked with them over a term? Once you’ve worked over a term you take on the responsibilities of a class teacher round where I do supply.

I would however just say no regardless if you don’t want to. There’s nothing they can do and you can walk away tomorrow and they won’t want that .

All teachers and some TAs were on the assembly rota in primary schools I worked in, even teachers on long term supply.
In between permanent contracts, I did a year in one school on LT supply and my duties were exactly the same as the permanent teachers. I wasn't happy though as I wasn't being paid to scale but that was the agency's fault.

Everyone does assembly once a half term at my school.
SLT each do one weekly.
I do hymn practice every week so don’t need to do another ‘proper’ assembly

Ah I used to love taking assemblies when I was teaching primary. Just get your class involved OP they could do a mini drama performance, hold up pictures and do little readings on a topic, you are covering in class. I am sure nowadays there are ready made assemblies online that you could use?
I am reminded of an old headteacher I worked for who had a set of assemblies that that he never varied from. Very boring but bizarrely seemed soothing to the children. I remember nodding off and being startled awake during his sword of Damocles assembly.
