Hey. We are due in January
pulled out the old babies next to me crib (Joie roomie glide)
it’s been stored in storage cupboard for two years
It smells slightly musty and has some yellow staining on the fabric
I will replace the mattress of course
but would you use this? Any tips how to get the staining out? Have no idea what it is. It’s happened while it’s been stored. Thanks

Check that the staining isn't mould in case it's been stored in slightly damp conditions. Otherwise I'd just give it a good scrub and get a new mattress and I'm sure it'll be fine!

@Noseybookworm Yes the cupboard/room can be slightly damp in winter. Silly question but how will I know it’s mould? It’s yellow staining. Not like the black or grey mould you would see on clothes or shoes if they were store in mouldy conditions.

Oh that doesn't sound like mould if it's yellowed staining ☺️ Scrub with some bicarbonate of soda with a squeeze of lemon and leave it out to dry outside in the sunshine if you can (doesn't have to be warm, just sunny)

Have you looked into why it gets damp in winter. It shouldn't be damp I wonder what's going on?

Elphamouche · 14/11/2024 00:30

Honestly, no I wouldn’t. But I think I might end up in the minority once there’s more traffic on this.

Caerulea · 14/11/2024 00:40

I had NO idea what your title meant. How do you re use a baby? Why is it next to you?! WHAT DOES IT MEEEAAAAN??

But, assuming it's a crib thingy, if the fabric can't be removed to clean properly then personally no, I wouldn't.

converseandjeans · 14/11/2024 09:01

I've never heard of it but assume it's this item

No I don't think I would if it's got damp for 2 years. Just get a new travel cot & you can use for a while after?

Breast milk/baby vomit stains yellow and you will likely also find stains on stored baby clothes that will come out when washed.

Calliopespa · 14/11/2024 09:07

I’d worry it was mouse pee that can carry weils disease.

It’s most likely a milk stain.

Otto223 · 14/11/2024 09:18

@Calliopespa What! Don’t say that 😂 I definitely haven’t seen mice

most of them you can wash the material - ours popped off and I put it in the washing machine as it was the same and had yellowing where it had been stored

RickiRaccoon · 14/11/2024 09:42

If it's a breast milk stain (the fabric looks clean when you put it away and then goes yellow), it'll come out in the sun. I had some baby clothes that had milk stains and just went away when I rewashed and dried outside.

Otto223 · 14/11/2024 09:58

@RickiRaccoon Thank you. Yes the staining is only on the side of crib which is closest to the bed/me so maybe sounds potentially could be from milk. Not sure if it’ll get any sun in London anytime soon, but I’ll give it a good scrub over the weekend! Thank you

Not if it’s been stored in damp conditions no.

DeepRoseFish · 14/11/2024 10:02

It will be full of mildew etc that you can’t see but it’s there and will be very difficult to remove fully
