I saw a dr today following an ultrasound then mri on my ovaries.
There was a cyst on one ovary, that's gone and now there is a cyst in the pouch of douglas.
He has ordered me to have blood tests to check for all types of ovarian cancer tumour markers
I think he said that it's not cancer.

But - my mum recently found stage 4 bowel cancer and died. I went to lots of appointments and nobody seemed to lay it out clearly it was lots of words which could be interpreted any way.

I was v tired at the appt.
Now I'm very confused and scared.

Laproscopy was mentioned i think that's the next step.

Please help - do they always break it slowly and gently in this way if they suspect cancer?

I'm not qualified in this area but from a quick search online, it looks like there can be non cancerous/malignant cysts etc. in the POD, so it could be non malignant.

And it sounds like he said he thinks it's not malignant.

But perhaps he's checking - as standard procedure - to make sure there are no indications that it is.

It's common, with cysts, to do that blood test and see what the result is, in conjunction with trying to figure exactly what it is on an ultrasound etc.

That would then dictate whether they leave it/have a look a look again in a while/remove it by laparoscopy etc etc.

The best thing I can advise is to contact his secretary and ask the question. He is human, he will understand and try to give you a clearer answer.

Hopefully someone better qualified/knowledgeable will be along to give their advice.

(Mine is most definitely not qualified or knowledgeable, sorry).

Edited

Thank you. That does tally more with what he said.
The mri indicates it is a tubular structure as well but he said it would be v unusual for fallopian tube to be down there.
