How long did you wait for the appointment and how many appointments did you have before you got to take the pills?

I called up and got an appointment within days. They prescribed the pills right away after an interview and ultrasound. They do try and get you in as soon as possible as they don't want you to miss the cutoff date for medical.

VeryCheesyChips · 13/11/2024 19:54

Appointment within 3 days if I remember correctly. I had an ultrasound (I couldn’t see it) and got issued the pills after they ran through some questions to check for my safety.
Thinking of you!

Appointment with GP who referred me on - and then rule in my area is you wait two weeks so you're absolutely sure you want to go through with it. Then appointment at the hospital and had a dating scan and a very patronising contraception talk before being prescribed the pills. Took the first lot in front of the doctor before been sent home.

Was really slow and taking ages (weeks) - it’s run by Marie stopes in my area. Also very condescending.

I went private and they sent the pills out by courier same day instead.

Please what company did you use? NHS is making me wait 2 weeks but I can’t wait this long

I used MSI Reproduction choices. I never went to my GP and didn't even realise people do.

The Gynae Centre

I went to a walk-in centre, they referred me to the department at the local hospital, the first hospital appointment was exactly two weeks after going to the walk-in and then I went for the actual tablets a week later, two appointments in 48 hours.
I thought it was an amazingly quick, easy, and supportive service.
How far along are you? If you’re quite early then it’s fine medically to wait two weeks, even if it’s difficult mentally.

Happymama98 · 13/11/2024 21:50

I’m according to my last period 5 weeks 3 days but I am sure I didn’t conceive until the 19th of October. I’m very scared of the waiting and also the guilt of having an abortion if it becomes more developed. I’m doing it through MSI and wanted to see if their was other quicker ones I could use

Self referred and they posted the tablets out the following day. Both times. No scans needed but you do need to be sure of your dates.

Gonegirl7 · 13/11/2024 22:29

The main three are BPAS, MSI and NUPAS. I got told there wasn’t really anyone else.

when I had a medical abortion a long time ago I got an appt within 2 days and the pills within 4 (they used to make you take them at the clinic).

recently I went through this process and it seemed to take a lot lot longer

Yorkshireblond · 13/11/2024 22:47

Try BPAS, sent online request for appointment on Saturday, was emailed with an appointment within 24 hours, appointment took place over phone on Tuesday, pills posted and arrived on Wednesday. You have to be under 10 week though for low risk for the pills by post

mrlistersgelfbride · 13/11/2024 23:44

I used NUPAS. I made an appointment over the phone which took place within a week.
I had to go on 2 other occasions for the pills.
I do remember each visit took a few hours as it was quite busy.

I think this would have been over a period of 3 weeks maximum.
I found out very early that I was pregnant at 4/5 weeks, and by 9 weeks the abortion was done.

This was 5 years ago though; I think you can now get the pills by post.

Mummy2020z · 13/11/2024 23:57

I used BPAS (NC for this as I did change my mind and continue with the pregnancy) and it was all very quick. I never rang my GP. I found out I was pregnant on the night time, called BPAS 8am the next day and arranged a call back by a nurse for 1pm the same day. Because of some confusion with my dates I needed a scan - I’d taken norethisterone to delay my period within the last 6 months, and anything which has interfered with them means a scan is needed to confirm dates as they may not be accurate and you must be under 10 weeks. They said they would do the scan at their clinic at my appointment so again no need to go the hospital or wait to be referred. I was offered an in-person appointment for 3 days time and you take the pills away with you there and then as long as all ok with scan and medical history in the appointment. This was just after Covid so they were giving me both pills with strict instructions, it may have changed now. I was also given the option of counselling.

Nhs lothian. Called and got a telephone appointment a couple of days later. I picked up my pack with tablets later the same day.
