My washing smells like NOTHING

Someone please tell me where I am going wrong. For years I have been washing and for years my washing has smelt like nothing or even slightly just off 🤔 this is whether I line dry or tumble dry, if I tumble dry, it has that funny tumble dry smell but nothing else.

I wash on 40 degrees, sometimes hotter if the washing is extra dirty.

I put in plenty of non-bio detergent and fabric softener. I just use a regular Tesco fabric softener which smells lovely in the bottle but nothing once I've washed and dried. My Nan uses the same one and her washing smells lovely. I've had new washing machines and tumble dryers due to previous ones breaking and that made no difference

The own brand fabric softeners are the problem, brand name ones have the best smell! Lenor/comfort outdoorable

I cannot believe i didn't know this! I have been having the same conversation with my DM as her washing always smells amazing and mine smells of nothing. I have been pouring the conditioner in the front part of the drawer, not in the measuring section 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thanks for enlightening me.

The new Persil liquid detergent smells good.

I am the exception to the rule in these replies.. I love my washing smelling clean and lightly scented. I do agree with the PP about the Persil Wonder Wash, that stuff stinks. OP try cleaning your machine and tumble dryer. Use only the amount of liquid/powder and softener recommended. Also make sure you use the right cycle for the items in the wash. I use Persil colour/bio and comfort. I don't bother with scent boosters, I don't see the need for them

Tumble dryer sheets and put the powder in the drum not in the compartment thingies.

I mainly notice it on Tshirts and cotton shirts, so no difference. The only thing I can think it might be is that I cancel it out with the scent from other toiletries and he doesn’t.
