Leaving keys in key safe with neighbour

I have just purchased a key safe and am thinking about leaving it with my neighbour rather than leaving it outside. The key safe is so that my neighbour is not able to access the key.

How sound is this idea? Please run through the pros and cons with me.

This is batshit. Just put your own key safe on your property, or trust the neighbour to keep a spare one safe for you. Both my immediate neighbours have a spare key for my house, and we have one for theirs. Wouldn't even cross my mind to use the key (why would I want to sneak in my neighbours house?!) and wouldn't give it to anyone other than the neighbour themself. Was actually brilliant that we had their key last year, as they went for a weekend away so left their cats with food timers, and their retuning flight got delayed, so they asked if I could pop in and put some more food down, as they ended up not being able to catch a new flight for 24 hrs. It also turned out one of the food timers hadn't opened the previous day, so two hungry cats were overjoyed I was able to feed them! We now feed their cats when they're away, at their request as they don't have to worry about them missing meals anymore. I wouldn't say I know them particularly well, we aren't friends, but I still trust them not to break into my home when we're out, and vice versa. I can't fathom this train of thought.
