I’ve been woken up by loud scratching! It’s coming from my fucking wardrobe!
last winter I had a mouse issue but haven’t since-it’s been warm so they’ve obviously been on holiday!
I can’t do anything about this right now as my toddler is asleep in my bed. Plus, what the fuck would I actually do?!
every time I make a noise, the noise stops! 😩😩
help! I’m the only ‘grown up’ that lives here and I really want my mum!!

Awww nooo op 🫣 solidarity from me too!
Sorry I don't think I could cope with one in my bedroom. It's a fear of mine since finding the first one sitting in the middle of my kitchen floor at 2am one evening when I was on my own. I stared at it for over 3 minutes not blinking or knowing what the fuck to do
It disappeared and we caught it (plus another 4) within the week. All in the same kitchen cupboard
Awful. They fucking stink as well. I was early pregnancy too and I could smell everywhere the manky twats had been. Spent a lot of time on hands and knees sniffing floors, kickboards and inside cupboards then cleaning and getting the boak

Seriously - solidarity!
Be careful with the poison tho. I think the snap traps would be much safer for your family/pets and just as effective if you take away all other sources of food (watch the toddler for crumbs!)

Can I just give a bit of advice from a personal experience. Check your trouser legs before you pull them on.

That is all.

LilacLilyBird · 13/11/2024 07:37

Unfortunately the only thing that finally got rid of mice in our house were small blue pellets of rat poison

Bit tricky with your car and DC

But you can hide them in areas they can't get to

LilacLilyBird · 13/11/2024 07:37

Cat 🐈 not car 🚙

LilacLilyBird · 13/11/2024 07:39

They started to get really brave and run across the room and the traps I bought were rubbish as was the battery run trap

BananagramBadger · 13/11/2024 07:42

We used the release traps with peanut butter and they worked but didn’t release far enough away the first time. Second time he went for a very long drive.

Can tell there’s none around anymore by the lack of unbelievable amounts of mouse shit everywhere. They are so gross! Also very easy to confuse mouse shit and the little black bits from the artificial pitch, so often get into mouse frenzy when it’s just the boys of the house bringing those home.

LilacLilyBird · 13/11/2024 07:42

Ours never came back

Arriving before 10pm!

I've heard that the poison you can get in the shops is fairly useless and may even attract the little critters. You need a licence to get the powerful stuff. And as others have said, if you have young children then poison is risky.

Old-fashioned snap traps are really the only way to go unless you're going to call in pest control. Those 'humane' traps really aren't that humane, as releasing a mouse into a strange environment means the mouse probably won't survive anyway.

I agree with those who have said you need to block up even the tiniest gaps in walls as a long term solution. They can get into a hole only 5cm wide, so it's not an easy task, but they'll keep getting in unless you make it impossible for them.

Definitely have one here too, have always used live traps to get them out then set them free down the road but this mouse isn’t going for it. Solidarity op, hope your mouse leaves! (Oh and I have a cat and a dog- no interest- probably a good thing as our old cat used to play with them🙈)

If you release a mouse, do it at least a mile away. If not, they will find their way back.

Rastamousse · 13/11/2024 07:46

It’s not really an option for me to go around dealing up every tiny hole. It’s an old mid-terrace house. Plus I have ‘stuff’ that blocks access to every nook and cranny!
I’ve recently had a pretty big clear out, so things are a bit clearer now for me to access places to hide traps/bait

I’m glad it’s now daylight. I’m sat having a coffee before taking the older DC to school. Then I think I’ll call in the cavalry(my mum!) and get to having a dig about. I’ve got a shit-tonne of shoes behind my bedroom door, so I think I’ll be ditching them at the tip today

Please think about using traps rather than poison. It kills the mice instantly and doesn't then risk poisoning birds or any other animals that are around.

Tumbleweed101 · 13/11/2024 07:52

We’ve got mice in the area between living room ceiling and bedroom floors. They were getting into my daughters bedroom. We pulled the wardrobe out and found a Tom and Jerry style mouse hole in the skirting! That’s been sealed now and fingers crossed it’s one route blocked into the living spaces. We caught two in her room in live traps and released them on the way to work over a mile away. We haven’t had any more in the traps but think we still have mice in the house.

Nightmare because of the smell and damage but I’m not worried by them as animals. They are actually quite cute!

rockingbird · 13/11/2024 08:02

Try to have a good clear out so there's more room to see where they are coming from. I'm with you, by whatever means I'd be doing it to rid myself of the little blighters 🙈 if all else fails burn the house down and walk away.

I have nothing helpful to add OP other than your toddlers excitement at the prospect of mice reminded me of this childhood poem by Michael Rosen

Oh he’s thrilled! Keeps asking to see the mouse. Might send him into the wardrobe with a mini taser!

👍 yes, I generally go on a bit of a trek and leave it in fields down the road. When I lived in an estate I once let one out the door and it ran straight back in😅😅😅 (was not funny then though😅)
