What's the point of Toilet Duck?

This product appears to be in practically every bathroom across the land, but what is it meant to actually do? The label and advertising proudly claims it removes limescale and stains like magic, but IT DOES NOT WORK!

Why is everyone using a product that doesn't work? Or are these bottles for show or something? 😅

To make money for whoever owns them! I use lemon juice to remove limescale. Incredibly effective. Though it does make me wonder what lemon juice does to tooth enamel!

295bkq · 12/11/2024 14:38

It’s not a product I rate

if you want limescale removed, get harpic - the blue one that says 100% limescale remover.

I guess toilet duck smells like the bog has been cleaned. That’s it really.

Well it will harm the enamel so always rinse acidic stuff off with a drink of water

MollyButton · 12/11/2024 14:39

It's in every bathroom as at some point everyone buys one, the finds it's useless - but can't think how to dispose of it.

MooseBreath · 12/11/2024 14:41

I find that it removes stains really well if you let it sit for 15 minutes before using a toilet brush. It then makes the toilet smell clean!

Nchanged89 · 12/11/2024 14:42

Toilet duck discs on the other hand are one of my favourite things in my cleaning cupboard.

Normallynumb · 12/11/2024 15:42

We have dreadful limescale in my area so toilet duck won't cut it here
Harpic power max regularly and the odd bottle of vinegar keeps on top of it

LetsNCagain · 12/11/2024 15:49

I use the fizzing tablets you drop in the cistern (bloo tablets or imitations). They are really good for keeping the loo clean between cleans

Mosalahiwoukd · 12/11/2024 15:50

Cleans the bog. Next.

Cowboycorgi · 12/11/2024 15:52

I find it works well. Quick squirt , leave for 15 mins & flush. Clean toilet

Squeezetheday · 12/11/2024 16:24

Yeah can’t say I’m a fan either OP!!! And those bloody discs you stick on the inside of the loo are crap as well. Citric acid is really good for removing limescale I’ve found, then the rest of the time I use good old fashioned domestos!

Suzuki76 · 12/11/2024 16:35

It cleans the toilet. No, it's not great on limescale, but I squirt round the rim and then use a toilet brush so it smells of pine and not wee. I can't leave bleach in there for ages as we have no bathroom windows and it aggravates DS and DH's asthma.

For limescale I use the Harpic blue stuff but again, it's a bit toxic.

Gettingbysomehow · 12/11/2024 16:37

It gets under the rim for one, kills germs and if you get the limescale one removes limescale,
I find it works very well.

OnTheBounce · 12/11/2024 16:44

The duck neck thing intrigues DH and DSS reluctant cleaners into using it.

Boomer55 · 12/11/2024 16:45

It’s fine if you keep the toilet clean as you go. 🤷‍♀️

Ameliasvocalfry · 12/11/2024 16:50

For me it's the smell, I love the pine one and squirt it around the bowl every day. Although we're in a hard water area I've never noticed any limescale so maybe it helps prevent it.

Yeah exactly, we have a dreadful limescale problem in our area and Toilet Duck does nothing. Will try Harpic, thanks!

Clean of the lime in the water? How do you propose I do that?

Toilet duck discs on the other hand are one of my favourite things in my cleaning cupboard.

Not too long ago a child peeled one off the toilet, ate it and died so be careful if you have little ones.

Get a water softener- best thing we ever did.

KimberleyClark · 12/11/2024 17:02

No limescale in my area. Harpic black does the job.

Haha sure. It's the limescale that's the problem, and the staining due to limescale rather than excrement stains. It's literally from the water sitting in the bowl, so can't really do much to prevent it. Its a very hard water area.

Thanks yeah we've been considering it, we've only been in this house for 18 months and the water has ruined everything - coffee maker, kettle, taps. Even with regular descaling.

Kilrock Limescale Remover is by far the best if you are living in an area with hard water, better than anything else we’ve tried!

It saves so much money in the long run. We descale our kettle about once a year now and never get limescale on the shower etc anymore. Would recommend Monarch - get a local installer to do it and then all you do is top it up with a bag of salt about once a month. Avoid Harvey's.
