Back ground
I live in a house that is on a corner. it is on a HA estate and we are the first road in. so a lot of people walk past up into estate.
the roads are not busy but as there isn't a 20 mile limit and it is a HA estate we do get boy racers and people driving faster than they should.

so today I have seen at least 3 mums walking up. with tiny tots. so they cross the road at an angle. do not hold small tots hand. so small tot sort of ends up trailing behind or running ahead.
now I can't help thinking this is stupid.
only takes a fast driver to come down and bye bye small tot.

so AIBU in thinking said Mums should be holding childs hand or at the very least matching there childs pace??

YANBU - I still hold DD's hand when we cross and she is nearly six. Except when she escapes of course, but that's another thread.

dd1 tells me off for trying to hold her hand when we cross the road.

She's 14

YANBU but I attempt to hold my toddlers hand and she promptly sits on the grund and has a paddy, so often ends up crossing the road tucked under my arm. Am also trying to teach her the Green Cross Code at 18m, is this a little young?

(My mum still goes to hold her younger sister's hand when crossing the road. Mum is 56, aunt is 42 )

I live in Australia, and we've got adverts on at the moment telling us it's the law for all children aged 10 and under to cross road with an adult!!! Now I'm wondering if it says "to hold hands".....but anyway........ What the fine is if your child does cross alone, god only knows.......

yurt1 · 28/04/2008 16:28

Oh I hate seeing people do that.

Or standing to cross sticking their buggy out into the moving traffic.

I can't look.

not good - don't know how they can do it
