Been with my BF for aboout 18 months, we don’t have kids together and don’t live together.

He is American and since we met he has been to the US 3 or 4 times

Everytime he goes he asks me if I want anything and I always tell him I want a original MAGA hat

He always refused saying he did not want to give money to Trump’s campaing or enter his cards details on his website or go to a rally.
I tell him to do eBay or Walmart but he refuses - every single time

I have just asked again now that his next trip is close but he sent me the vomit emoji

Now, I’m not MAGA and never been right wing, I do laugh at Trump but I’m well aware of how dangerous he is. I’ve supported Biden and Kamala from day one. I was very sad at the results.

Before the election I wanted the hat for me to wear on Halloween as I had a scary costume in mind

Now after the election I want one so I can send to my 80 years old aunty who lives in Brazil and loves Bolsonaro and Trump.
She has health issues and will not last much longer. She is the only one in the family who has this politics and has been feeling increasingly lonely and isolated. She is not going to change and maybe never vote again.
I don’t care about her politics, she has always been very supportive of me and there for me always and throughout all my hardships.
She has everything she needs. She can buy whatever she wants. That hat, bought in the US and given as a gift would mean a lot to her.

When I wanted for halloween it didn’t really matter that much - it started as banter when he asked me what I wanted from the US for the very first time way before the election campaigns

But now I would love to make my aunty happy and make her feel like somebody accepts her and gets her - even if I don’t agree with her politics.

Her father had two families, she is the oldest of her sibilings and half sibilings, grew up in poverty, work her ass off since very young, put herself through Uni and built her career - always helped her whole family financially, emotionally.
Never married, never had kids. Her family is her everything.
Now she is isolated.

I think Bolsonaro and Trump are some kind of super hero fantasy of hers. A frustrated or repressed symbol of a man who would help her through life. Many women project that way.

Since she built her career and made her money, she likes to buy original things, good things, expensive things, maybe to compensate from her early struggles. I can give her a fake. I know a MAGA hat is crap from China, but there is something about it being bought in the US and brought back by an American. I know it sounds bonkers.

I live in the US and I'm not sure what would make a hat "the real thing" versus "not the real thing?" If I were inclined to buy such a hat I would probably buy it off of Amazon.
