AIBU To think transactional analysis isn't very helpful?

I'd never come across this until a few months ago on a training course and I could have misunderstood things, after all, it was only one person's interpretation of the method but it just seems so old fashioned. OK, I'll say it. I think it's bunk.

I have never, ever in my life applied this parent, adult or child in the situation theory unconsciously or naturally and can't think of how I could apply it in the future as a helpful strategy.

Maybe somebody can help me out here and tell me what I've missed?

Models that help to explain behaviour are just that: 'models'. If you come across one that aligns with your thinking and experience it can be a useful tool. If a particular theory doesn't resonate with you then don't use it. But most of these models, including Transactional Analysis are based on significant amounts of social research. Personally, I'd hesitate to call anything 'bunk' just because it doesn't work for me.

'Bunk' was going too far, I agree and I was probably being taught a highly oversimplified version for the purpose of the course but thanyou for your comment. It is a model as you say and it just didn't click with me.
