Central heating- exhilarating I know

If you're at home for the day and it's cold, do you have the heating on all day or just periodically? When I woke up this morning the house was freezing, I was so cold so so I put it on but now it's warmed up and I feel a bit hot so I've switched it off and switch it back on later but that's probably more expensive isn't it? I've got joggers and a t shirt and a jumper on.

Get an Oodie and a heated throw!
It's saved me a fortune!

Have been meaning to get a heated throw. Would you recommend yours?

It’s fine to turn it off and on as you want it??

Stretchedresources · 11/11/2024 09:19

It's set to 20° so it clicks on and off as the temperature fluctuates.

Can you turn the running temperature of your boiler down? (It should be OK at 50 or 60, but plumbers often set them to 70 or 80.)
This means the heating will be on for longer and the temperature will see-saw less, for the same amount of gas burned (or possibly less, as boilers are slightly more efficient at lower flow temperatures).

Worth a try anyway.

We just put it on as and when we need it.

Thelnebriati · 11/11/2024 09:22

We have to lower our boiler temperature every time the boiler is serviced, I wish they'd leave it alone!
I have a heating pad on my chair, its lovely to have a warm back and its very cheap to run.

I work from home too. I try to avoid putting the heating on until my son gets home from school. If it's really cold I may stick it on for a couple of hours around lunchtime. I've got an Oodie and a hot water bottle which usually does the job. I also wear fingerless gloves (you can get USB heated gloves as well apparently!) I may invest in a heated throw at some point but I'm surviving for the moment. It's not that cold really yet where I am.

If you can afford it, then use your central heating. Being cold is miserable, feeling warm is nice!

Just trying to be as economical as possible

Just get a small portable electric heater and heat the room you are in.

Or get a heated throw.

I have a home office and just have a £30 electric heater in there. It is more expensive per unit heat than gas, but because it only heats one room it is cheaper as less units are needed.
