To be absolutely sick to the back teeth of fireworks

Tricho · 10/11/2024 19:06

Across the road cant seem to read a calendar and are having a display. Dog going berserk, can't hear tv. Absolutely livid

Aibu to think if you're still setting fireworks off now you're just a little bit fucking dim

You sound a fun person. It’s the weekend after the 5th November. Of course people are going to be letting off fireworks.

MayaPinion · 10/11/2024 19:14

We have them too. They’re shit and really noisy.

Autizzy · 10/11/2024 19:15

Was just thinking this.

A load going off again now and dogs are upset and I'm sick of hearing them too.

I wish they were banned.

Scutterbug · 10/11/2024 19:17

I expect them the weekend before and weekend after bonfire night. Then also significant events like Diwali, Chinese new year, New Year’s Eve etc.
Sorry it makes your dog bark though. We are very lucky that our dog loves fireworks and chooses to watch them.

Mumof2namechange · 10/11/2024 19:17

Some of your neighbours might well be thinking "I wish op didn't have such a noisy dog, I'm sick to the back teeth of it".

Live and let live. Those who live in glass houses. Etc.

YouveGotAFastCar · 10/11/2024 19:18

We haven’t had many this year, but they don’t really bother me - toddler DS is fascinated and they don’t seem to wake him when he’s asleep (although they rarely go on past 8:30 here, at the latest) and we don’t have a dog to go mad.

1WanderingWomble · 10/11/2024 19:18

Sorry your dog is having a bad time but I think YABU. Lots of people are terrified of dogs but it doesn't stop you having one (and nor should it) - point being, sometimes one person's choices affect other people. As long as it's not illegal or immoral, you just have to find a way to live with it. I'm sure there are lots of negatives you could point out about fireworks (environmental etc) but that's the same for all sorts of things, including pet ownership. Both bring joy to people's lives so I'm not inclined to get my knickers in a twist over it.

Changingplace · 10/11/2024 19:18

I thought they’d be finished by now, poor dog got spooked by one earlier when we were out and it wasn’t even really dark ffs, I think they should be restricted to organised displays on certain days.

John451 · 10/11/2024 19:20

YABU

Suzuki76 · 10/11/2024 19:21

We went to the big local display - last night. It's not hard to figure out this might happen when the 5th is midweek.

FloralGums · 10/11/2024 19:23

I love fireworks. I don’t see why people can’t enjoy them because some other people have dogs.
Dog owners, in my experience, have no consideration for others so shouldn’t expect it in return.

ladymalfoy45 · 10/11/2024 19:26

Some of them seem particularly loud this year. Our village had an organized display last week ,as the the castle in the neighbouring village.
On Tuesday the fireworks from private gardens sounded like ordnance at various points.
I love the whooshy , sparkling fireworks but the bangs are louder than ever.
Our cat has never been frit of them until this year.
My dad's neighbors let off three of those cubes with multiple bangs and scared his three cats .
Several neighbors complained to the house because the bangs were so loud. And those neighbors didn't even have pets.
I m of the opinion that it's a particularly thoughtless person that buys extremely loud fireworks when one can purchase less noisy ones.

ColaCar · 10/11/2024 19:27

Fireworks going off over here and I literally don’t care. I love fire works, kids have watched them from the house.
More the merrier I think.

CountFucula · 10/11/2024 19:29

Well it’s the season for fireworks… next weekend you might have a point.

I don't own a dog. Or a cat, or any other animal which might cause, annoyance to my neighbours. I am however scared of fireworks and fed up of feeling anxious and on edge every evening wondering when the next bang is going to happen. I'm especially fed up of the ridiculously loud ones which make me jump out of my skin and panic that it might come through my window.

I am using CBT techniques to try to keep calm, but it doesn't stop the fear completely. Am I allowed to be fed up? Or is someone going to come up with a reason why I am a fun sponge who just needs to suck it up?

Catandsquirrel · 10/11/2024 19:34

I love fireworks and luckily our cats don't mind them but this year seemed like more than ever even with the 5th being midweek and Diwali. I'm not sure if they've got cheaper but some houses seemed to be having multiple display-level shows of fireworks at home

Where I live there are fireworks being let off every week and at all times of day. Some of them are so loud and echo around like bombs going off. I've heard them mid-afternoon in summer in broad daylight and they've woken me up at 2am. Apparently drug dealers use them as some kind of signal.

I love a good firework display, they're so pretty, but I support a ban on sales to the public with only licensed displays being allowed.

Wendolino · 10/11/2024 20:02

They're probably getting a bit of revenge on you because they're fed up of hearing your dog barking

Barleycat · 10/11/2024 20:03

Just started again here. Last night was dreadful with some idiots setting loads off around midnight.

MidnightMeltdown · 10/11/2024 20:28

Fireworks have been going off here every night for the past two weeks. I don't mind an organised display, but people that let them off in residential areas are dickheads imo. Especially the teens who just randomly let them off in the street.

lasagnelle · 10/11/2024 20:31

They're probably on offer? Cost of living and all that

They should be arrested. I'm not sure why the police don't care about people carrying explosives around and setting them off just because it's november

icecreamsundaeno5 · 10/11/2024 20:32

I do think they are to be expected on the weekends either side of a midweek Bonfire Night.

I actually really love them - the sparkle, the pops and bangs, the smell in the air. I have lots of lovely, nostalgic memories.

I have a dog but desensitised her to unexpected bangs early on - slamming doors, cars backfiring, fireworks.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Drug dealers let off fireworks in their own gardens to signal what, exactly?
