I’ve been thinking for a while that somethings going on with my daughter and I and I’ve been trying to find ways to repair our “broken bond”.

But I have just spent a whole week with other kids her age and I realised, I think it’s just this age group that I don’t like very much! I mentioned to my friend and she said she can’t stand the toddler age where’s as that’s my fave one.

Was just wondering if anyone else had preferences like this!

Toddler age was physically and mentally hard. I struggled.

On the other hand, I found the newborn stage easier than anticipated.

LightDrizzle · 10/11/2024 17:07

DD1 had a very mini adolescence thing going on at 8 and it seemed to be the age at which she and her friends starting eye-rolling a bit and being snide, cliquey and occasionally unpleasant at school; flexing their manipulative muscles.

I’d say 8 and 15 for me. I think at 8 they start the process of looking more towards their peers for approval and leadership and this reaches its apogee at around 15 with hormonal turbocharge.

Age 13 to 18. Grim!

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 10/11/2024 17:09

Newborn was brutal and 12-15 was hard going. My least favourite age to teach is y4, 8-9 year olds, but I loved the parenting side.

Couldthiswork · 10/11/2024 17:10

Loved newborn and toddler stage

Not so keen on secondary school age to say the least. DS has been a nightmare from 11 (now 16). Makes me question if I am cut out for this 😞

rubyslippers · 10/11/2024 17:11

I had two non sleeping babies
it was grim
teen years are brutal

toddlers - loved that age
4-6 was nice too

ginasevern · 10/11/2024 17:11

I agree with this but enjoyed the teenage years

SashMontgomery · 10/11/2024 17:13

Just realized I didn’t put daughters age! She’s 10. Felt this way since about age 8.

Baby and toddler years. I found them much harder and more boring than the teenage years.

Attelina · 10/11/2024 17:15

Loved every stage until 13 - 15 and then it's been lovely again ever since.

Babies and young children are easy.

Farmgoose · 10/11/2024 17:16

Maybe 9. They’re all teeth and ears and not cute any more 😆. Too old to be innocent and too young to be interesting. (Disclaimer. I loved my children even when they were 9).

Agree with you there. I’m on 9 and 11 and it’s not great. Too young to be left alone and unsupervised in any way but no longer interested in toys and generally hard to entertain. They see all adult things and want them (phones, YouTube etc) but aren’t able again to be unsupervised and don’t understand the things they see and want and pester for are inappropriate and too expensive. Generally quite an annoying age.

Newborn to 2 yr old was hell on earth for me. ‘Terrible 2’ weren’t terrible at all for us and once communication, walking etc happened started getting easier and easier. My DH wanted another kid; I told him if I can birth a 5 yr old I’m all for it but since that’s not an option, I’m done at one as can’t imaging going through the first 2 yrs all over again.

notacooldad · 10/11/2024 17:20

I wasn't keen on the age round 6.
I.loved from 9 to adulthood including the teens.
Teenage years were my favourite.

BlueSilverCats · 10/11/2024 17:21

Baby and toddlerish stage .

Early primary years were bonkers, noisy and exhausting but fun.(one my ears stopped ringing from the incessant chatter)

9-11 ok but some very frustrating moments around friendships, interests etc.

11 to now (13), favourite stage so far , but who knows what the future will bring?

PanAmHostess · 10/11/2024 17:21

Loved baby stage then gone down hill. I am not a good mother unfortunately

Caffeineismydrug35 · 10/11/2024 17:22

15-17 is mine. Love the adult DC and love the little ones but those end of teen years were grim. Anxiety was constant, always dramas and tears.

Joolsin · 10/11/2024 17:23

I found the baby stage brutal. Loved toddler to about 6 years old. Late primary bit tricky, when friendship issues can cause upset. Teen girl years hell. 20s and up delightful!!!!

AConcernedCitizen · 10/11/2024 17:23

Roughly about 6 months to 25 years 😅

Delatron · 10/11/2024 17:23

Toddler years and teens from 13/14-
hopefully just 16 but not out of the woods yet.

Liked the newborn and baby stage up until toddlerdom.

Fairydust34 · 10/11/2024 17:25

Teenagers have made me question my sanity. give me a newborn any day!

Delatron · 10/11/2024 17:25

I would definitely take a newborn over a teenager!

WestwardHo1 · 10/11/2024 17:25

I don't have my own children but I'm finding my niece very hard going at the moment - chippy, cheeky, argumentative and very attention seeking. She's a young eleven and has been this way for about 18 months.

Keyboardgo · 10/11/2024 17:27

Baby & Toddler the best!!

Middle years seems to flash by, I couldn’t tell you what a 7,8,9,10 yr old does or is like as I genuinely can’t really recall.

Currently in the throws of teen years, which definitely has its ups and downs! But I do love how I am seeing DD grow up, she is genuinely very funny!
