Get a bell collar or something. Give the wildlife a chance. Can you train cats to leave birds alone?

I've probably said this before, but none of my last three indoor/outdoor cats were killers. My ginger boy brought home an empty cheese wrapper, a cigarette carton and most worrying a used teabag. I once caught him and his matching blue tabby partner in crime having cornered a rabbit but they were quickly grabbed by the scruff of the neck and rabbit was gone! Tabby boy once had a baby robin but he didn't try to kill it - I think it fell out of a nest. We took it to a vet who took in all sorts of waifs and strays but it didn't survive.

Tuxedo boy was so little of a threat to the birds that they happily ground fed even when he was in the garden. He never so much as looked at them, and they seemed to understand they were safe with him! In the 12/13 years we had him out of what we reckon was at least 20 years, he never caught or attempted to catch anything.

It isn’t the natural order for domestic pets to decimate wildlife.

It’s possible to be concerned about more than one thing at a time.

I’m not sure cats got the memo that humans have decided to domesticate them. They’re following their animal instinct. I don’t think k reason around what kind of cat they are comes into it.

No, so humans should try and balance their pet ownership with trying to reduce the impact on the bird population as these animals are becoming rarer. I'm surprised so many are missing this point. It obviously isn't the responsibility of the cats themselves.

Except it’s been shown repeatedly on this thread alone that this isn’t happening, there are no birds in population decline as a result of cats.

I had a word with next door's cat, whom I feed when they're away, after she left me two dead mice to clear up.

Her response was to stick her tail in the air, show me her arse, and flounce out the door to see her mates 😮

What's a woman to do? 🤷

comparing birds to rodents is just another extreme.

Birds cannot be compared to worms either apparently. Is there a reason why not?

Because birds are special precious animals
(but then so are cats Wink)

A cat can’t be vegan you’ll kill the cat with that diet

This is true. Cats are obligate carnivores, they can't live without meat
