To question nursery re no. of nappies

Quite new to having son at nursery. It seems ok. There is an app to see what theyve eaten, how many nappies etc. I took in 24 nappies two weeks ago. He only does 2 days. On that day, they called and sent him home early. He didn't attend the second day that week. So he's done 2 full days since then and they're asking for more nappies. Total no. of changes according to app is 11 (i'm aware they may not of logged one or two).

He came home with different type of nappy on on Wednesday (when we received request to provide more).

Is it likely his nappies are being used for other kids who have run out? Is it worth mentioning to staff?

Maybe they ask for extras on a standard rota, like asking everyone every fortnight? But yes I would mention to them he’s in been in 2 full days and should have plenty left according to their records as well.

This is excessive. It's not just one or two. I would say something.

I would say something. If children are in full time then the usage would be similar enough I wouldn't be bothered, but if they're pooling them all and expecting you to top up after 2 days that's not fair.

bumsnetto · 10/11/2024 06:18

Thing is, only I know how many I sent in and what day it was. That wasn't logged by them. And obviously grateful for overlap if we had run out but we shouldn't have done.

Hate broaching these kind of things

Like in reality, I know its manic there but its the lack of care to these little things which makes me worry about the big things. He's meant to have his own little box of supplies. They already asked to keep his nappy cream at nursery rather than leave in his little bag he takes each time he goes

Its likely that if parents have to supply their own nappies, some children may have tun out and the parents havent brought in a new pack. The nursery should really have their own spare stock.

I would just pack 4/5 nappies in his bag each day. If they ask why just tell them the reason why. If you provide your own nappies then they are to be just for your son, not shared amongst all the children.

My DC old nursery did the same thing, it was bloody annoying, he started 1 day a week and the following week his nappies were gone. They later started supplying nappies themselves.

This always happened when mine were at nursery. Can you send in a few each day?

husbandcallsmepickle · 10/11/2024 06:55

I would just put a couple in his bag each day.

Ask them OP, I was once asked for extra nappies and thought it was premature - they’d put the last lot in a different cupboard and it was a different member of staff who asked. All resolved.

They do occasionally come back in diff nappies, maybe it’s the first one to hand? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Mine had nappy stations with baskets for each child, saves them rifling through a bag each time.

I was keep my own log of what you have sent in & label things as far as I could. Nursery fees are expensive enough without supplying things for other children!

TulipsTwoLips · 10/11/2024 07:10

Our nursery had a two step organisation system for each child so big bags of nappies were stored in one place then they came through to each child’s box in the main room in smaller amounts. I wouldn’t be too concerned if they asked for more nappies. If they had 13 left that would be 2-3 days for my child so I could understand that they’d be asking for more in good time as it might take me 2 or 3 days to get to the shops.

If it’s bothering you, you could use the fact that he came home in a different nappy as a reason to start the conversation.

They are labelled on outside of pack. But yes, I think I will do one more big pack for him then start just sending in a few each day if this keeps happening.
