Where has it been if she has to wait another two days?

W0man0nthem00n · 09/11/2024 14:50

My friend had a passport stolen abroad this is what they had to do

1
Go to local police station & get a crime report number

2
Apply to British Embassy in thar country & apply for an appointment to apply fir a temporary passport.
Note: Not allowed to go to Embassy without a crime number.

3
Attend Embassy in person at the appointment time.
Pay for a temporary passport.

4
Apply & pay for new passport once in your home country.

All transport & fees had to be paid by themselves.

You could ask your travel insurance for advice, they may refund some of the money due to the loss.

This is why it is important to keep a passport safe

Going to sound nuts here but it's worked! If you ever loose somthing ask ST ANTONY. He's the patriarchal Saint of lost things and it works everytime....my friend is having passport returned in 2 days. Thank you so much fellow mumsnetters for all advice. I appreciate you all😁

Is St Anthony busy for the next couple of days?

Westfacing · 09/11/2024 14:58

This happened to a friend in Lisbon on the morning of the flight.

Hotel reception phoned the British Consulate and arranged for a taxi to take her there and wait, then take her to the airport. She was issued with a temporary document - it was white and looked like a mini passport.

Unbelievably she made the flight and met us in the airport bar!

I suppose he's busy as I lose shit all the time and keep nagging him😅@Wherethewildthingsfart Can you test my theory and please get back to me? Have you lost anything and been looking for it for ages? Can you ask Saint Anthony? And see if it turns up?

There was a long lost thread on mumsnet about a missing ironing board......op didn't solve the mystery of where it went....I always wounder🤔

Completely off topic....but I was working in a market stall and someone lost her bag. I said ask ST ANTONY and the security guard came around the corner holding her bag! (Actually called him st antony-laughs all around) 6 months later she came back in....having to tell me....

Her father passed away from cancer 20 years previously. They couldn't find his wedding ring. Asked St ANTONY.....

They only went to church and found it around a candle where he must of been praying and it slipped off his finger. What are the chances!

Do stop it with the St Anthony stuff, you're embarrassing yourself.
The traveller needs to follow the actual, sensible advice being given here. She's not a test ground for fairytales.

That's if the friend and the passport actually exist.

@Potatoewithawonkyeye This is concerning.
Where is it now and why is it taking 2 days to get it back to her?
Who has it? How is it getting back to her.

I would be deeply suspicious and report it lost immediately. Who knows what it's being used for during those 2 days.

Go to the consulate and take the photocopy/scan of your passport on your phone that you have with you.

It makes things much easier.

They will need to complete an on-line application for a temporary passport which cancels out the previous passport. This will ask for details of the lost passport - it's just quicker if these are to hand. They will be given an appointment at the nearest consúltate for collection (although if this is difficult you can pay for it to be couriered). Timescale will depend on where you are, time of year but also day of the week as it's working days (so application on Friday afternoon, first appointment Monday morning) .

Arrangements for and delayed travel or having to remain in the country will depend on how you travelled there and your existing plans.

RamblasTapas · 09/11/2024 16:45

Are you actually going to tell us what happened to the passport @Potatoewithawonkyeye

InSpainTheRain · 09/11/2024 17:12

Good news OP. I think taking a moment to think, retrace steps etc can help and if that includes St Antony... then all good!

I have all those docs such as travel insurance, passport copy scanned/photoed, numbers to cancel credit cards etc scanned and in the safe folder on the phone ready for retrivial. Because they are backed up I could also retrieve from the Google account if the phone is lost.

I'm not sure if you mean you have another backup, but the "safe folder" absolutely isn't saved on the cloud so you can't retrieve it through your Google account.

I have mine in a private photo folder on Facebook so I can access it from anywhere

SBHon · 09/11/2024 17:25

private photo folder on Facebook sounds like an oxymoron…

You can definitely make folders private. Guess it’s a risk if it got hacked but I use two factor authentication so that’s unlikely, less likely than having my phone and passport taken at the same time if I’m mugged.
