to want a WII Sport + Fit game on the NHS instead of a gym membership????

Soomeone else asked for a gym membership...and extolled the obvious health/cost benefits.

That would be MUCH more expensive and much less likely to be effective than my WII, so come on Mr Prime Minister.

It would cost the government a lot less money to buy my WII and it would keep me and my family out of mischief for ages.

I promise I'll be less obese if you they go for this . I might even stop eating chips and chocolate

Nice try!! I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you though.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 27/04/2008 19:39

Well I'm stressed and listening to music helps me relax. So I think the NHS should buy me and Ipod.

squilly · 27/04/2008 22:09

Holding my breath might be counteractive to any health improvement goals I might have, I suspect.

I agree SKSS...Ipods would be good too.

It's not like we're asking for recreational drugs or free wine (also good for destressing) or anything.

Am writing my letter to the PM now. He seems to be feeling generous with taxpayers money, if the Northern Rock situation is anything to go by!!!

squilly, my thread was serious, although the thread title tongue in cheek. Depression is a serious issue - im glad you think its funny

squilly · 28/04/2008 11:04

I don't think depression is funny at all...

I've suffered with it twice after different miscarriages and had to deal with a Prozac lifestyle for a while, which wasn't fun, so I mocking your affliction at all.

I just think that if you can ask for a gym membership on the NHS, what's the difference with a WII? It does the job a gym membership would, but it's more likely to be used.

It's amusing because it's a 'no-hoper' request. As is the gym membership thing. Regardless of the worthiness of your original post.

There are lots of things that relieve stress and would be great for depression sufferers...most of them you couldn't get from the NHS in a million years.

Does that make it laughable? Not necessarily, but the way we deal with stress and depression is different for everyone.

Me? I've learned to laugh about things. And yes...I think asking for a WII from the NHS is funny.

for me the best stress reliever is the wind in my hair and the sea spray on my face. so pleas mr prime minister could I have a yacht?

I'm sorry squilly, after sleeping on it, i realise i over reacted. That is the problem with the internet sometimes, you don;t always glean the intention from what is typed. I guess im just sensitive due to the opposition from the other thread. Exercise refferal IS available from the NHS, although its not the NHS that pays. Usually the bill is taken up by local councils. I'll let you know how i get on - i am not sure they will concede to a WII though, that would be condoning the use of computor games . I remember playing tomb raider on playstation, it really made me anxious and quite agitated, to the point i had to stop.

Might be time i took a step back from mumsnet as i am losing my objectivity - i didnt mean to jump down your throat, i apologise. You LO is lovely by the way

squilly · 28/04/2008 20:32

Hi lucyellensmum....I know where you're coming from with your original post.

Sometimes, you can feel really got at with emails and I'm afraid I can be a bit too smart mouthed sometimes. And the thread probably wasn't as thoughtful as it could've been.

I tend to come across as ultra confident in RL and no-one believes me when I say I'm riddled with insecurities. I tend to trap first, then think about what a large size 9 mouth I have...which is good, because I have large size 8 feet!!

If you do get a WII or a gym referral, I'd keep it to yourself! It'd be something that some people would jump on like a ton of bricks, and that wouldn't be funny!!!!

Thanks for saying my LO is lovely. I think so, but then I'm TOTALLY biased! I've just read your profile and now don't feel worthy to e-talk to you! You PHD woman you!!!! I feel like I should bow out of this post as quickly and as reverently as possible.

BTW if you do decide to go for the primary school teaching thing, let me know. I'm half tempted myself, but am a little old...especially as I'd have to start from scratch with a degree.

You'd only have to do a year wouldn't you?? It'd fit great around your little one...though I'd be tempted to wait til she was at school, but that's cos I didn't do that and now I feel like I missed out on the good bits of my dd growing up.

I'm sorry I caused offence with my post. It wasn't meant to be snidey, but I can see it could come across that way. And don't keep away from mumsnet...it's the only thing that keeps me sane sometimes, by putting things into perspective.

Take care!

my DD pointed out the WI fit thing to me today - i have to say, i am impressed - she says she might get one, i think then it is only fair she lends it to her mummy when the novelty has worn off!!!

Don't apologise, your post was quite funny actually. But why stop at the WI, a full make over and manicure has to be good for the self esteem - they can pay for that too , oh, and the new wardrobe i will need after shedding so many pounds at the gym

lucyellensmum · 28/04/2008 21:01

i probably should have a mumsnet break, the trouble is, my DP keeps giving me reasons for posting on AIBU - what can a girl do.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 28/04/2008 21:14

i love our wii, dont have wii fit yet but nearly all the games give you a good workout,i dont be able to move the next daygreat family fun mariokart is brilliant

squilly · 28/04/2008 21:28

I'm so jealous ATEWB(great name btw!). I want a WII (to which my daughter normally responds, well go to the loo then...typical 7yo humour)!

I've promised dd she can have one when we get back off hols (end of May) but ONLY on the proviso that me and DH can use it all the time after she's gone to bed.

I told DH what it does...it's SO much cheaper than the gym AND I have an addictive personality, so am highly likely to get:-

(a) addicted to the games; and

(b) competetive about beating my own fitness age. (Apparently it gives you the age your fitness level indicates?) Beating mine shouldn't be hard as I'll probably come out as a 78 year old (that's the oldest age I've see on different posts, so I figure that's probably as old as it goes).

LEM, My DH only wants me to post when he's spotted something saucy (like the one where someone said the other night that they were missing cock...I was and he was [insert emoticon for very, very cheeky!].

And I think you deserve the nails, the wardrobe, the makeover, etc....it does a girl good sometimes to have these treats. And why shouldn't Gordon pay for it? It'd be a better investment than most the stuff he spends his/sorry our money on!!!
