Long time lurker, first time poster.
Am not sure if I am being unreasonable or not - Xmas leave allocations to be advised 3rd/4th week of Nov. I feel that this is rather late for childcare/ travel plans but don’t want to create a fuss if actually that it’s acceptable.

YABU - that is sufficient time to plan

YANBU - that is not enough time to plan.

I think that’s fine really, lots of workplaces even give less notice than that. Obviously it’s not ideal but it could definitely be worse, it’s still a months notice.

also to take into account that most of the team are not from the City the company is based in and will need to book flights/ train tickets…..which will
be crxy expensive that close to Xmas.

Depends on the type of role tbh.

Anything that sells or offers services around Christmas may need to leave it that late to see what headcount they need/if they're fully staffed etc.

It's obviously no good if you need to book travel at sensible prices.

Could you have booked annual leave if you'd have wanted to book a holiday over the festive period and needed 1 to 2 weeks off?

But it depends on the industry and whether its a busy or quiet period.

This is the request for annual leave! Most of the team affected by the decision will be travelling.

I suppose the thing is how much it costs employees to travel at Christmas isn’t the employer’s problem. Their only concern is making sure they are staffed correctly and so they time the rota to ensure they know what cover they need, what staff are available etc.

KarmenPQZ · 08/11/2024 15:15

Is this normally how it is with booking holiday for say June. It doesn’t get approved til May? How do you ever book abroad flights / trains / holidays?

ifnits different then worth a chat to them I’d say.

Valid point!
