To have never washed my vacuum cleaner!

So have been watching these tik tok videos about women washing their vacuum cleaners which makes sense when you think about it! They run water through the hose and wash everything except the motor part. Anyone else do this? Or not do this ...?!!

I wash the filters every couple of months or so. I've also cleaned the dirt collection bin and soft brush head bit a couple of times - when they've looked like they needed it. I've never cleaned the hose though, that seems excessive.

I'm not on tiktok and I'm certainly no clean freak. But when visible parts look dirty they get cleaned.

Clean filters occasionally and wipe out plastic canister. Do not run water through and electrical appliance. You could kill yourself

These influencers are really starting to run out of content aren't they?

presumably you are also supposed to vacuum your washing mashing regularly?

No, washing machines are dry clean only!

JudyKing · 08/11/2024 13:42

Whilst it makes sense, this is the first I’ve ever heard of it.

🤣🤣🤣

I have been known to wash the filters on occasion but can people on TikTok really not think of anything better to do with their days than rinse out their hoover?

I might give Henry a bit of a wipe outside with a cloth if he's seen some heavy DIY action. However, what I love about my Henry is that, even after 15 years, the inside or filter just doesn't get dirty if you use the proper hepafilter bags. And even better, you don't get a face full of dust like you do when you empty the bagless ones. I have bought a new floor attachment when the other one got a bit cruddy.

My Henry has seen some very heavy action. He's sucked up rubble when the house was renovated, I use him on the ash in the woodburner and on one notable occasion I set him on fire. With a new filter to replace the singed one he was soon back in action. Sometimes he also goes outside to get the last of the leaves on the steps.

I was the HEPA filters fairly regularly, otherwise the effectiveness of the vacuum drops somewhat.

Look I think there's no other way to say this but... your Henry has Stockholm syndrome, that's why he puts up with all your abuse!

I once washed the (removable) filter from my cordless Dyson when I clogged it with plaster dust. But that is about it.

yeah, same. I'm wash the filters regularly as it makes a massive difference to the effectiveness of the hoover. While I'm doing that, I will give any other obviously dirty bits a wipe down, remove the hair wound round the brush and just check everything's in good working order.
I'm no clean freak either - it's more in the interest of keeping my hoover in good condition so it'll last longer!

Musicaltheatremum · 08/11/2024 16:04

My husband cleans and washes the filters on our Gtech hoover every time he uses it. (We are bad at hoovering)
He also squeegies and cleans & dries out the shower daily so I never need to clean it.

I should get him on ticktock

But hasn't your washing machine had dirty pants in it? And you put it in the dishwasher?? How gross! 😉

It's ok , she puts the dishwasher through the washing machine after

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 08/11/2024 16:12

I have at times washed parts of my vacuum cleaner. Not the whole of the house, but I wipe round the dusty bits at the top and bottom.

He's still smiling, bless him. And he's getting more of a rest whilst the new robot vac is buzzing around.
