In your child or grandchilds nursery? That the numbers of kids have significantly reduced and if so, where are all the kids now being cared for?

No increasing constantly.

doodleschnoodle · 07/11/2024 22:27

Opposite here. Our local nurseries are bursting at the seams! Long waiting lists for all of them.

Mlanket · 07/11/2024 22:29

Birth rates have plummeted, very obviously so where I am.

lifeturnsonadime · 07/11/2024 22:29

I think there has been a drop in birth rate which is impacting on nurseries and on reception classes in some areas.

Mlanket · 07/11/2024 22:29

They have either moved away or not been born!

I viewed a nursery today. 6 kids in the preschool class. Two years ago with DC1, the nursery's preschool class had 30 and there was a massive 18-month waiting list for places in all nurseries in the area. The difference? We've moved from a very sought after area down south to an ex-mining town up north. There are also no waiting lists for childcare here to speak of. It makes me wonder why we even tried to buy a house down south.

PrincessAnne4Eva · 07/11/2024 22:31

What I have also noticed up here is at DC1's school, siblings are the norm here where in our former town, they were the exception.

OdeToBarney · 07/11/2024 22:33

There's been a drop off in DD's intake at nursery, but that's because they're old enough now to go to school nursery, which is cheaper. But the baby classes have increased in size due to the 15 hours funding now including kids from 9 months and up.

justanothermummma · 07/11/2024 22:45

Where I am nurseries have waiting lists of over 12 months and schools are oversubscribed by siblings and new people to the catchment with no resources to expand.. obviously area dependent!

Mlanket · 07/11/2024 23:07

@justanothermummma whereabouts are you?

Pigeonqueen · 07/11/2024 23:27

Opposite here (south Norfolk) everyone constantly battling for nursery places on the community Facebook page.

mynameiscalypso · 07/11/2024 23:31

Declining birth rates + Brexit have had a big impact here. Previously over-subscribed nurseries and schools have plenty of places
