Went to a new dentist last week, after a 15 month gap. She said I had bone growth in my lower jaw, called a torus, and spent so long reassuring me it was nothing to worry about that I wondered if I should worry. She is referring me to the hospital to have it checked.
I was aware that my teeth were no longer meeting properly, but had assumed that was something to do with my lifelong clenching and grinding, or that I was misusing my sleep guard. Again she seemed a bit concerned, and said it was more likely to be caused by a jaw joint problem. She wanted to refer me to a private orthodontist, but I said I'd wait till I'd seen the Consultant at the hospital.
I'm posting mainly because I feel so stupid for not really noticing or acting on the changes. Now I think about it, I was aware that the large bulges in my lower jaw don't leave enough space for my tongue, and that the jaw alignment meant I couldn't bite food off or chew properly, and that I was lisping and sometimes dribbling a bit. None of it really seemed important though.
Does anyone have any experience of something similar? Is it as trivial as I thought?
