to be concerned about two people in a van parked looking into our house?

About 45 minutes ago, a van drove into our street. It's a quiet culd-de-sac. They turned around and now have the van parked at an angle pointing straight into our front room.
There are two people in it - a middle-aged man and a middle-aged woman, both of whom look completely non-threatening.
They have been sat there for the whole time, with the woman blatantly staring in at me. The man now appears to be sleeping.
Should I be worried? It's pissing me off more than anything. There are plenty of places in our estate to park in for a snozze without peering into people's homes and making them feel uneasy.
AIBU to feel annoyed or worried?

don't worry they are probably just thinking about buying a house in your area

beaniesteve · 26/04/2008 12:38

or robbing a house in your area

Could you go out and ask 'are you lost?'?

If it were me I'd stand on my head in the window and wiggle my legs about

Monkeybird · 26/04/2008 12:39

if it's cul de sac a polite can i help you? might do the trick. i would.

itsahardknocklife · 26/04/2008 12:41

Tee hee I have got a TV licence!

Just after I posted a neighbour went out to them and said something and they've now gone. I just thought it was bloody rude to sit there staring in.

I find that waving at people who are staring in is always very effective!

Beanie, might be worth a try, I would just carry on doing whatever you're up to, and make it obvious that you are watching them, watching you. Take a note of reg plate to be on the safe side, I always think stuff like this, I'm like a younger prettier version of Miss Marple

Or you could get a pizza delivered to them if they stay there any longer, "1 ham n pinapple for the weirdos in the white van please!"

My DS did wave at them out the window at first (he's 18 months old) but they ignored him.
I did make it obvious I was watching, and I even considered pointing the camera at them in a very obvious way!
This is the first house I have lived in where we haven't got nets. I like net curtains but our landlord has vertical blinds on the lounge windows and nets won't fit on.

anyway, they,ll have been having an affair and needed somewhere they could guarantee their partners wouldn't drive past...

it's what i always think when couples are parked up in weird places

SandyDennyWasAGreatSinger · 26/04/2008 12:48

we always seem to have strangers in vans/ cars parked outside and staring in at us. I've been telling myself i'm just paranoid to be irritated by it, but this thread has made me feel slightly justified.

itsahardknocklife · 26/04/2008 12:48

Urgh! I don't want to think about them doing it! They weren't the best looking of people!
Yes, maybe he had to have a rest first before they jump in the back!

OP posts:
itsahardknocklife · 26/04/2008 12:48

Oh no, maybe they wanted me to join them!

weird what people do on a day out

KatieScarlett2833 · 26/04/2008 12:53

Go out and ask them if they are lost.

JustJaamy · 26/04/2008 14:12

Itsa - they were probably my PILs. Sort of thing they would do! Hope they were nothing more sinister than harmless weirdos!

Desiderata · 26/04/2008 14:17

I'd have flashed my tits.

But then, I never need much provocation to do that ..

Heated · 26/04/2008 14:20

Dh's grandmother called dh's parents late at night to say there was a prowler in the garden and he had looked in her window. MIL calls police and Fil rapidly turns up with tyre iron in hand. Turned out to be the washing on the line

Desiderata · 26/04/2008 14:30

Ha ha! I did that this morning! I was hanging out the washing, and felt a presence behind me, so I lunged blindly with a karate chop.

They were dh's jeans flapping on the line

daizydoo · 26/04/2008 14:35

Are you in a neighbourhood watch area? If so phone the coordinator, or phone the police and tell them that there are suspicious people outside!

are they still there?

itsahardknocklife · 26/04/2008 18:24

No, no, they had gone after about 50 minutes. A neighbour went out and said something and they went away.
I think we are in a neighbourhood watch area, but I have no idea about who runs it. I wanted to call the police, but DH said I was over reacting. Oh well. No harm done.
