Men with multiple kids and maintenance

Got off the phone with my ex, he’s just told me that he’s split up with his current partner 🙄and that she will be making a claim for child maintenance from him and I can expect mine to reduce?? He currently pays me just over £800 a month but as his other child is a baby who he won’t be having overnight, I can expect mine to reduce quite significantly. He said the CMS told him this. Surely that isn’t right?? Don’t they let me keep the £800 for our child and then just charge him more, seems really unfair if he can just keep having kids and the maintenance just gets split.

I have no idea how it works but logically there can't be endless £800's taken out of his paycheck so it will have to be divided up after a point. You can't take what he doesn't have.

FreshOrangeJuice · 05/11/2024 23:13

no they don’t but £800 for one child wow i would say that’s more than most get!

But much much less than children cost

The alternative for subsequent children is even more unfair unfortunately.

CleopatrasChild · 05/11/2024 23:16

Am I right in thinking maintenance could reduce by half or even more then on account of him not having the baby overnight? Extremely unfair if that’s the case.

You can run the sums through the CMS calculator and find out what you’ll get now they’ve split up.

It also goes down if he moves in with someone who’s already got kids, which is the maddest part.

Buttermill · 05/11/2024 23:16

They won't it's split between both children and if he does not keep the baby over night she will get the bigger chunk provided he has ur child overnight or it will be 50/50 approximately. Thats alot to pay out I assume a higher earner.

well i wouldn’t be complaining receiving that amount he must be an extremely high earner. and if she matches that then that’s £1600 you are saying can’t raise a child on that a month? 🙄 they are both responsible for providing for the child not just him

shittestusernameever · 05/11/2024 23:19

Same happened go me, it went from £100 per week down to £20 for 3 children.

I find it incredibly sexist that men can have as many children as they wish without any consequences. Just say I was on benefits, I would be affected by the 2 child cap yet my ex can spawn as many benefit babies as he would like.

Sorry I derailed the thread 🙈

I hope it works out in your favour op

I’ve just tried that and there’s no part where I can specify the other child and how many nights they have them

How many nights does he have your child a week ?

You need to do the calculator as if you are the one paying, not receiving, then you can do for multiple children from multiple mothers

Beastiesandthebeauty · 05/11/2024 23:38

Assuming it is 1 - 2 nights a week I would expect yours to drop to around 535 a month
