Where to change toddlers?

Does anyone else find it hard to find places to change their toddler once they are in pull ups?

She is too heavy for the fold down mats (seen a lot only go to up to either 11kg or age 1) and I change her standing up or laid across my knee because it's easier.

I change her outside a lot of the time because the idea of kneeling on a toilet floor to do it is gross. Have tried sitting on a closed toilet but not much space.

AiBU- they should put chairs in toilets for this?

Is it not normal to change them standing up, I do with my DGC? I rip the sides and then take them of that way if it is very dirty, wipe down my DGC then get them to step into new ones. I'm not sure a chair would help me particularly?

I lean on the fold down mats, and if it's sturdy I change him on there anyway. He's nearly 2 and 14kg. I appreciate it's a risk but they'll be more sturdy than they're willing to write as a limit

Standing up doesn't work very well for us, as he tends to bolt!

You need to practise your squats @Makingchocolatecake, you won't need to kneel then!

I always just used the tables, never checked the weight limit Blush

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 05/11/2024 22:49

How heavy is your toddler?! DS is only 19 kg and he's six in a few weeks. I never even considered a weight limit. He was out of nappies just after two.

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/11/2024 22:51

Always done it with them standing on my knee once in pull ups. Never really considered another way. So sitting on top of the loo, squatting if no lid etc.

Wowsers, he's tiny. My nearly 5yo is 19.4kg and 112cm

When I read the title I assumed you wanted to change your toddler for a better one.

He can't be that heavy

He's not tiny he's one of the tallest in his class, to be fair he's around 20kg my conversion was a bit off but he definitely wasn't 11kg at a year old

Ratfinkstinkypink · 05/11/2024 22:58

I have a 14kg 4 year old who is still in nappies (and always will be) he is unable stand when he needs changing (he can't even sit unsupported). He's too long (and his movement is too erratic) to be safe on most changing tables so I usually have to head back to our van to change him on the passenger seat (it's a bench seat so I can lay him down). The lack of privacy for him and the strain on my back are real concerns but the lack of truly accessible bathroom facilities is a real problem.

I don't know if all big Tesco stores have them but in my one there is a toilet/changing room that's specifically for disabled only. I'd imagine your son would qualify to use it for obvious reasons. May be worth a look as it must be a nightmare trying to do it in a van.

She's big, she's 19kg and almost 2.5. She's not overweight just tall and stocky.

How tall?

Can't see why you don't just use the trays really
