White Fairy Lights

I bought a mini bell tent type tent and am now legally required to wrap fairy lights around the centre pole. I was in The Range and saw the last packet of cheap lights the right length for my needs so I snaffled them quickly. Imagine my horror and despair when I got home and loaded in some batteries to find I had accidentally purchased "Bright White" lights instead of the "Warm White" lights of the type that a fully grown, rational human being would want.
Why do they even sell those "Bright White" lights? What's gone so badly wrong in somebody's life that make then want a fairy light experience similar a Post Office counter or a dental clinic?
I bought the correct lights in Tesco and feel much better now in their homely, comforting and subtle glow.

I did this two christmasses ago to a 700 bulb set with sharpies, to get the perfect retro glow reminiscent of 1980s Christmas. Took me a whole day.

You are a flippin' genius!

Tooty78 · 05/11/2024 18:11

I know how you feel, I did mine with a very pale pink nail polish, they did look lovely but my God it was tedious!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/11/2024 18:14

I'm with @Scutterbug and @AreYouShittingMe, although I don't hang fairy lights on my tent.

Chypre · 05/11/2024 18:14

Bright white are for outside use only! Love warm white inside, but can’t stand them outside.

Amazed to see people admit to bright white lights. They must want the "Ice" look to match their cold emotionless hearts.

I feel seen @Mysterian 😂

Scutterbug · 05/11/2024 17:35

I’m the one who buys bright white, I think the warm white look dirty 😂

Snap!!

Skybluepinky · 05/11/2024 18:18

I hate warm white lights reminds of going to smokers houses where everything is coated in smoke, but if u r going for that look clean bright white wouldn’t work.

MadCatandBirdLady · 05/11/2024 18:19

Love the bright white lights. Very icy and wintery.

I love this so much! 😍

I feel the same about blue lights, nothing says Christmas like flashing blue lights reminiscent of a crime scene.

I totally understand! I would ban them 🤣
Why would you decorate your house like an emergency response??? I moan out loud when l drive past houses lit up with them! ( Adult children think l’m nutty😫)

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 05/11/2024 18:25

I feel the same about any fast-paced flashing tree lights, no discrimination on the colour. If your house is doing Christmas disco, I will judge you.
Solid colour or a slow fade are the only acceptable settings.

NeedABabelFish · 05/11/2024 18:25

Bright white and blue lights should both be banned. Especially blue flashing outdoor lights, they make me twitchy when I'm driving Grin

Oh I love bright white! They seem...cleaner to me.

To perform surgery? Yes.

For Christmas? No.

To perform surgery? Yes.

For Christmas? No.

So far 80% of people agree with me.
20% of people want to perform unlicensed surgery in their houses for some reason.

Hi @Scutterbug - fellow bright white fan

I like them too, they look cold and frosty, not keen on blue ones but each to their own..

This has made my day and I will definitely be using it 🤣

This had never occurred to me. The possibilities 😊

I don't mind if they are bright white or warm, but never the two together.

These look lovely @thenewaveragebear1983 ; it’s an excellent idea!

I was just about to say something similar. Each to their own, but I hate the blue lights! They don't even look Christmassy to me. I don't get the appeal at all.

justasking111 · 05/11/2024 20:08

You'd all hate my projector which throws a huge cute snowman onto the front gable. Luckily the grandchildren adore it 🤣

FloatyBoaty · 05/11/2024 20:12

I’ve been warm white all the way ever since I can remember - but a couple of years ago was seized with nostalgia for coloured lights on the Christmas tree. Now we have warm white fairy lights around the chimney all year, and coloured lights on the tree for Christmas- so I get both.

Cool white lights and blue lights can get in the bin.

Ambienteamber · 05/11/2024 20:39

Bright white lights are disgusting. And blue lights are only acceptable if they are part of a multi coloured string of lights.. they are not acceptable on their own.

AbbeyGrange · 05/11/2024 20:59

When we had that really snowy winter back in 2010 it snowed heavily quite close to Christmas and quite a few of the houses had bright lights on hedges and bushes etc, they looked stunning against the backdrop of the snow but I like ALL Christmas lights....except pink ones which are pointless.

Ooh same except I keep the warm white on the tree and have coloured along the banister. There’s something about a tangle of coloured lights akin to the picture posted upthread that is enormously evocative of childhood Christmas.
