Do I need to call 111 or can it wait? Settle the debate!

For the last few weeks I've had headaches around my left eyebrow, I'm 13 weeks pregnant so just assumed it was to do with that.

Now I've got jaw pain on the same side and it's radiating around my temple and ear too. Some clicking of my jaw on that side too, weirdly. Is this likely to be a bog standard dental abscess?

Basically, should I bother calling 111 tonight (because of being pregnant really, not anything else) or can it wait for an emergency dental appt tomorrow?

DH seems to think I should go to A&E immediately - I think I can wait until tomorrow and just dose up on paracetamol until the morning!

I'll be honest jaw pain is making me think 111, at the end of the day they'll listen and advise so nothing to lose. Being pregnant as well and if these symptoms aren't usual for you then I'd be even more swayed to get checked out- but definitely at least phone and see what they say!

I think a persistent headache when pregnant shouldn’t be put down to that alone
the fact the pain is radiating I think you should call 111 and get medical advice

WhereIsMyLight · 04/11/2024 19:43

Your maternity unit should have an assessment telephone number. You’re better calling them and they will advise you as they can take the pregnancy into account.

Pigeonqueen · 04/11/2024 19:43

Pregnant and jaw pain - 111.

MissMoneyFairy · 04/11/2024 19:45

It may not be dental, it could be your ears, you won't know until you see either a doctor or dentist. How do you feel otherwise, any temperature, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision.

lasagnelle · 04/11/2024 19:46

111 or phone your midwife out of hours line

tarheelbaby · 04/11/2024 19:47

You need medical help. Call your midwife number or the maternity unit

Oneearringlost · 04/11/2024 19:51

Sounds like Temporo-mandibular joint ( TMJ) especially with the clicking, but no one would/should be made to feel unreasonable for seeking medical help with those symptoms and pregnancy. I don't think it sounds like a dental access though.
If it's been going on for a few weeks, I'd contact GP/101 tomorrow morning.

Oneearringlost · 04/11/2024 19:52

111!
Or midwife

Dragger · 04/11/2024 19:53

No harm calling 111 but I'd expect a call back from a dental nurse at best.

All the best, and with the rest of your pregnancy. X

Entertainmentcentral · 04/11/2024 20:30

My friend lost her hearing when she was pregnant. It didn't return. Take this seriously.

She has. All booked in to urgent care tomorrow am.

Read the symptoms of partial jaw dislocation, there are exercises you can do to relieve pain if it’s that

mrwhippy999 · 06/11/2024 09:30

Just in case anyone was wondering - they think it is just sinus inflammation. Which is uncomfortable but certainly not dangerous!

No it isn't, if that's what it is. But it doesn't mean that people shouldn't get checked out. My cousin had a stroke weeks after giving birth, it didn't have to happen, she was fobbed off. Another young woman locally was fobbed off over breathlessness during pregnancy and her lung cancer wasn't diagnosed until it was too late. She never left hospital after a C Section. Likewise there's been deaths post birth because people have ignored the symptoms of DVT.

Oneearringlost · 07/11/2024 15:46

Ah, I'm pleased to hear it's something acute and self limiting (ish)...Did they suggest antibiotics bearing in mind you're pregnant?
An old GP friend of mine used to say "Sinusitis will clear up in about 2 weeks with antibiotics and about a fortnight, without".
All the very best.

BobbyBiscuits · 07/11/2024 15:53

Can you feel inside the mouth to see which teeth/tooth it's coming from? If so then it is a dental issue. There's a chance it could be an ear infection or other facial/neck infection not to do with teeth. If you can see a dentist tomorrow that would be the best thing. If you've no money for private you need to say you're in extreme pain to 111 and they'll try and refer you to NHS emergency dentist. In the meantime take codeine, paracetamol and ibuprofen. I hope you feel better soon x
