Universal credit been asked to provide evidence and attend appointment?! Anxious

Hi I am a single mom who works part time and claim universal credit.

I have been asked ti provide 4 x month bank statements of my current and any savings accounts and attend an appointment this weekend to provide further evidence?! Have I done something wrong? I've never had this before I've claimed for around a year now and I feel really anxious that they might question me even though I've done nothing wrong

Is this usual for DWP to do this please?

I think they're doing random checks. If they suspect something is off I'm guessing they would have made it clear they were investigating you?

TeaAndBrie · 04/11/2024 17:58

This is pretty standard, they want to make sure that what you’ve declared is correct. As long as it is then you don’t need to worry about anything

cornflakecrunchie · 04/11/2024 18:04

I haven't been in this situation for a number of years, but I do recall being scared when I got a letter, telling me of an upcoming visit. I phoned them & it was the 'Compliance' Dept, even more scary! However I did tell them I was worried & could they tell me what an officer was coming to see me for?
It turned out to be an old pension which had been put in my records under two different names, so it appeared I was fiddling! Soon cleared up, no visit needed. I hope yours is the same kind of thing, might be worth ringing to put your mind at rest?

You haven't done anything wrong. They are doing random checks. Lots of people are having them at the moment.
Just make sure you get your ID ready, and print off bank statements. They might want to call you to go over what is in your statements, but they will not (and should not) be judging you on what you spend your money on.

YouAreOne · 04/11/2024 18:12

They're doing random checks, I know 2 people who have been asked to attend appointments.

BabyCloud · 04/11/2024 18:27

It’s probably a random check unless they suspect you have a partner/more income than they know about.
They will only be interested in seeing what’s gone into your account and I’m sure it will be fine. These things are daunting to anyone.

Curtainqueen · 04/11/2024 18:30

I have the same thing. It’s just random. I’ve already given the bank statements and have to take my birth certificate next week.

verabarbleen · 04/11/2024 18:38

It's just random as long as it's all correct you will be fine and if it's slightly wrong they will just amend your benefits accordingly or you will have to pay a little back each month if you do owe anything. No need to worry 🙂

HappyNewYear2027 · 04/11/2024 18:39

It's random checks that weren't carried out due to COVID. We had ours done earlier in the year.

You provide 4 months of bank statements and I believe a copy of whatever government ID.
We got a phone call about a month later saying everything was fine, no further information was required, no disruption or changes in payment.

Keleshey · 04/11/2024 18:40

Random check, I've just had one and my appointment was a telephone one that was just to confirm about any accounts ie current accounts, ISAs, Paypal etc Please don't panic.

teatoast8 · 04/11/2024 18:40

Totally normal. Don't worry

NotReallySure · 04/11/2024 18:41

Normal, I've just done it. Was on the phone, random questions about bank statements but generally fine and no bother. I think they do it every few years?

Cornflakelover · 04/11/2024 18:58

It’s a standard review. 4 months banks / savings statements

some people if they haven’t provided ID they have to go to the job center so they can be verified again

if you go over to Reddit and the benefit subreddit they have loads of posts about it and they have actual people that work for the DWP / UC that run the forums

Cookie2204 · 17/12/2024 23:25
