Child watching tv practically all day

Mine…😬

Do you ever do this?

Yesterday, we took dd (6) to a zoo & amusement type place all day -10-5, then she played with her neighbour friend until a later bedtime.
Today, she has played with the ball in the garden and a hiding game with dh for around an hour and has made chocolate apples with me. I’m making a roast dinner, Dh and ddog are asleep. Dd has literally watched tv the rest of the time-Disney films mainly

Do you do this, is it not great? (Dd doesnt have a tablet etc yet)

Absolutely fine. Don't worry about it. They need the downtime like we do :)

WhatNoRaisins · 03/11/2024 15:44

The odd day isn't so bad, especially if they're a bit run down.

GrandHighPoohbah · 03/11/2024 15:44

It's fine. She doesn't do it every day.

cestlavielife · 03/11/2024 15:45

For one day in a busy week? Chill

LadyGabriella · 03/11/2024 15:46

It’s ok. We have to be realistic.

V0xPopuli · 03/11/2024 15:56

Mine have watched a couple of hours (a film) this afternoon. But both are coming down with something, it wouldn't be a typical day.

Its not the end of the world once in a while but it would be normal for a child of 6 to play games, do puzzles, maybe read or listen to audio books, colour or draw, or be doing stuff like making dens in the clothes horse. My y1 dc spent ages today doing hama beads for example. Elder one was doing lego.

I guess it must be hard if DC is only child as they've no one to play with.

This.

Honestly what's wrong with one day of watching TV? It's not like she's doing it 7 days a week and it's not even been an all day thing because she's still played and done baking with you today.

Storybot · 03/11/2024 16:02

I very rarely let this happen unless DD is ill, and she rarely is. Not for any particular reason other than I would feel terribly guilty and she is also a very high energy child so it would come back to bite us in the bum at bedtime

Ohitsrainingagainisit · 03/11/2024 16:07

@Storybot See I feel
guilty now, also a very high energy child, which is why we’re basically constantly exhausted

@V0xPopuli She does do those things also, but says she doesnt want to today and wants to watch tv

Yeh we have days like this. It's all about balance. Plus with it being the end of half term it's good to just let them relax before school restarts.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 03/11/2024 16:20

Perfectly normal IMO. DS is exhausted, it's been a busy week. We haven't moved from the sofa since 11am other than to open the door for a pizza delivery 😂 Yesterday was similar actually. But checking our calendar we won't even have the option of having a day like this for another 3 weeks 🫠

Hufflemuff · 03/11/2024 16:31

Humble brag?

Kids to have down time after a busy week, just like adults. It’s absolutely fine to do this sometimes!

SkankingWombat · 03/11/2024 18:13

We've had one of these today. Last night was a very late night after an extremely busy and active half term away. We all needed to vegetate today to have any chance of not starting the next week totally broken. I wouldn't allow it every weekend to this extent, nor would DCs generally want to, but even after a 'normal' week (which are also fairly full on, but less so), they need time for complete R&R. A film (or two or three) fits the bill perfectly.

HohohoGreenGiant · 03/11/2024 18:29

Seems fine to me. Sometimes kids really need to just relax on the sofa and watch TV. They may be tired or ill. My DD has watched two full days worth of Peppa Pig because she's got chicken pox and isn't feeling herself. It'll likely continue for the next couple of days.

Even if they're not tired or ill, it's fine if you've been busy or it's an occasional thing.

Ohitsrainingagainisit · 03/11/2024 21:16

@Hufflemuff In what way exactly 🤷🏻‍♀️
