To think this is bullying?

I am working as a temp on a day rate in an industry I’ve been in for several years. When I joined, the company told me they would ideally want to keep me (presumably if i performed). They have historically had lots of temps.

My new role is pretty different from my last role and has been a steep learning curve. When I joined, there was no induction or training and I wasn’t given proper work for quite a while. When I started being given work I got very anxious about things and felt I made small mistakes here and there but ultimately the finished product was good. There has been no real guidance or feedback from them other than the fact they have renewed my contract and complimented my attitude / persistence in the role.

I have since found that they won’t be renewing again and that they are looking for someone new (saw them looking at CVs in a very obvious way) and also they seem to be taking work away for me. I’m feeling low and demotivated about things. Anyone have any advice?

My advice is don't think about defining it (I don't think it's bullying) but look for a new job and soon.

It's not bullying. What makes you think it is? There's possibly several reasons. It might be that they think there's a better person for them out there. They maybe prefer temps and have to pay the agency more the longer people stay (introduction fees?). They might just want a skill that you haven't got a lot of experience with. It could be loads of things but bullying is someone being deliberately unkind to you repeatedly which isn't this.

Downside of being a temp I'm afraid, but not bullying

I agree with the others, it's not bullying.

its unfortunate, if you wanted to stay, and daft of them to talk about keeping you from the beginning, but obviously the fit isn't quite right from their POV

either treat it as the temp position you took on OR go & talk to them about what skills they're looking for that they don't think you have.

As a temp you need to focus on roles you have the skills to go in & be up & running (other than a few company specific things) not in roles that aren't your skill set.

start looking for your next position whether that's temp or permanent.

best of luck
