I’m sorry but what?

Just seen adverts on Social media for Santa’s arrival in two local shopping centre type places on the 9th November

I know things start earlier and earlier, but that’s what, 7 weeks before Christmas..!

My local shopping centres had christmas decorations up on the 29th October.

Happening everywhere now I went into a pub For a meal the other week before Halloween and the pub was fully Christmas and Halloween dressed up

It's been like that for years now, hasn't it?

NuffSaidSam · 03/11/2024 14:58

Well, he's so busy now with the population explosion. He can't be expected to get it all down in December like he used to. Plus, he's getting on a bit.

People are busy often both parents working long hours. This sort of thing being accessible for a longer period of time gives families more opportunities to visit.

It's batshit isn't it? Same here. My local market town has the Christmas lights switch-on, a big Christmas market, and yep, SANTA visiting, on 9th November too. And yes it is 7 bloody weeks away... Some 15+ years ago, it was 2 weeks before Christmas, not 4 days after bloody Bonfire night!

TickingAlongNicely · 03/11/2024 15:01

Well he needs to know what the children would like with enough notice to make everything. No point finding out he's short of 500 train sets the week before Christmas, but has a surplus of scooters...

The whole of Christmas has got earlier and earlier. When I was a child, we’d never put up the Christmas before Christmas week, and often not until Christmas Eve. These days, you’d hardly be able to buy a tree Christmas week - the supermarkets will have (fresh) trees from mid- November. I used to have an American neighbour who always put her tree up the day after Thanksgiving and took it down on Boxing Day. Once, I would have thought it was a little eccentric: now it’s absolutely normal - houses seem to start putting up outside Christmas lights earlier every year. I think it’s a pity - by the time Christmas arrives, everyone’s bored with it all. (And our local Sainsbury’s had mince pies in before the end of August - I took a photo to send to my daughters abroad!)

How does it negatively affect you OP?
