Why do people say this but go back to shop a few days later?

Because they don't mean it.
They want the shopkeeper / owner / manager / assistant to kiss their arse and give them free stuff.

MildGreenDairyLiquid · 02/11/2024 19:09

Because a significant number of people - especially those who say stuff like “I’m never shopping here again” - are full of shit.

Differentstarts · 02/11/2024 19:40

I don't know but it always makes me laugh I'm always thinking in my head please don't but you know you will see them again in a week

Raquelos · 02/11/2024 19:40

Because they are very annoyed in the moment, but then they calm down and can't be arsed to go to the shop further away. A more useful question might be what made them so frustrated that they said it in the first place.

It's usually when they don't get their own way people don't like being told no and think they deserve special treatment

This. Don’t dismiss feedback from your customers, that’s not the way to do well. They say that they won’t come back because they have limited ways to tell you that they’re unhappy. Take it on board and decide whether you need to do something.

So if I refuse someone alcohol because they have no ID. Or I refuse to sell them more then 2 packs of paracetamol. Or their demanding free bags because they don't agree they should have to pay for them. Or i tell them to not push in, in the que. Or their bank card is declined or they forget their own pin number. Then they throw a tantrum what feedback should I take from this 🤔

I’ve had a couple of memorable encounters with this type of person in my time in hospitality.

“I’m never coming here again!”
normally accompanied by hearty cheers from the locals/staff.

it’s only regrettable how infrequently they seem to mean it.

That it’s worth thinking about whether you could perhaps make it clearer that legally you’re not allowed to,rather than you just don’t want to?

But people do know this their are challenge 25 signs around age restricted products then again at the tills it's also at the door as they walk in. Iv never refused a sale and said because I don't want to. I always say it's challenge 25 and that I get a personal fine if I serve someone without ID to which the usual response is either I'm 19 and loud gob full or iv got 3 kids at home and a loud gob full.

There is no point in wasting time talking to the shop staff about frustrations about the store. The staff don't have the time or resources to take into customers' moaning.

The customers need to contact the shop either ringing the customer care number where their complaint is registered onto a system which then is fed onto the shop itself. Problem is that not many people are doing this so issues are not raised quick enough.

My friend and her colleagues on checkouts plus a manager wear cameras. They don't record anything until they activate them. Colleagues should activate cameras if they get verbal abuse from customers. CCTV cameras only pick up the visual footage. The colleague worn cameras pick up sound too so if the customer tells the staff members to fuck off, that is recorded.
