To spend £5k on a 10 night holiday (room only)?

I’m looking to go away in Feb/March/April. Where we usually go has become super expensive, but I think everywhere has!

Pre-covid we could have gone here for a weeks all inclusive (good hotel with an la carte sit down meals and cocktails) for £4k. I am looking at cheaper hotels that aren’t all inclusive to lower the costs but we now have a 2 year old so that will add costs for their seat and room type.

I know the island has become more expensive but AIBU to think everything has and this is just the cost of a nice holiday these days. Our toddler has allergies so we need a room with a fridge for their diary free milk as a minimum and a kitchenette as an ideal as it allows us to cook basic food she likes if she doesn’t eat anything in the restaurants. The room and resort still feels like a hotel which is a must as I don’t like self catering normally, I like to do minimal domestic chores when I’m on holiday!

But then again DH thinks £5k plus food and drinks seems like a lot of money and we should look for alternatives. But I just don’t know where (a lot of places seems to be very anti tourists and I wouldn’t want to go there, I also don’t like going to much poorer countries as I feel uncomfortable staying in luxury whilst others suffer so much) and I really do wonder whether it would really be any cheaper! For context I don’t think we would spend more than £1k extra as the hotel has water sports and it’s own beach included in the resort.

I travel a lot and it's become really expensive, flights especially for various reasons (can't fly over Russia, clawing back pre covid money, fuel etc) I can't comment on your own situation, I don't really know enough about it or even where you're going...only you know what's best for you. It's a tough one because I've stayed in fantastic hotels but I like to try other places , I rarely visit the same country, let alone the same hotel...but then also if i had a 2 year old again, I'd probably quite like the security of knowing exactly what I was heading for.

It’s good to know everything has gone up!

There's deals to be found if your not too fussy about location, don't mind travelling to fly, and are willing to trail through reviews to make sure it's not a cesspit. We have booked. For us, cleanliness, hot sun and good food is important. We will go anywhere. Fly from anywhere within about a 5 hour drive. We've managed to book 2 weeks half board during summer school holidays for under 4k. Hotel has excellent reviews and is a 4 star Hotel. Given you don't need to book school holidays yet you should be able to get good deals. Are you sure your dates don't fall within school holidays?
