To ask to do my training at the closer store?

I've recently gotten a new job and the place I will eventually be working is currently under construction so I won't be able to do training there until it's ready. I have my own transport - I ride a small motorbike - but I don't drive a car.

The company has a number of other locations which are quite far away so that really leaves 2 contenders for places to do my training. Store 1 is about half an hour away and is a very familiar route for me through mostly back lanes and quiet country roads. Very sheltered due to trees/high hedges etc.

Store 2 is about an hour away down a very open and exposed major A road. Lots of flyovers and very windy, especially at this time of year. No option for public transport from where I live and no other route to get to store 2.

I recently had an incident where I got caught in strong winds on the same A road and it was honestly terrifying. I've been riding for 10yrs and it was the most scared I've ever been. I genuinely thought I was going to crash and die!

For anyone unfamiliar with motorbikes, especially small ones, they just don't have enough weight to avoid being pushed all over the road by strong winds and the only thing you can really do to counteract it is to partially lean off the side of the bike and go as fast as possible. Additionally (as in my case), the wind can physically catch and push your front tyre, causing you to wobble and so you are constantly fighting for control.

It's a brand new job so I wouldn't normally ask for concessions to be made for me but in these circumstances, for safety reasons, WIBU to request I do the training at store 1 instead of store 2? I don't want to be seen as difficult but I also want to get there and back in one piece!

I've managed recruitment for stores opening new branches (and therefore training) and by all means ask! They may say no for a variety of reasons, but it's likely they're training people at both stores and are happy to swap people around. Ask early though!

You can always ask, they can say no, but you’ll never know unless you ask
