Life insurance

I am thinking of applying for life insurance, I am a healthy 43 year old with a partner and four kids. I recently got an email from Barclays (my bank) about getting insurance through them. Is it better through the bank or should I just look up insurance companies? Please advise which insurance companies are best for this. Thank you in advance.

I’m pretty sure you can use price comparison websites. Worth also checking with work as one of my employers had a very very good deal.

You're better going through a broker. I was with vitality, but recently changed to Aviva. They covered 400 conditions rather than 100 for vitality. As a healthy 41 year old I pay about £38 per month for life and critical illness insurance for myself and one dc.

Shop around for the best deal. It is unlikely that your bank is the best option.

It wouldn't occur to me to go to a bank for life insurance. You really should have it in place with four kids.

Do you work, do you have any kind of death in service benefit?

Buying insurance from a bank is like buying bread from a fishmonger.

Get a broker or a price comparison website. Just remember it's not the price that matters, it's the policy terms and restrictions.

Might be worth talking to an independent financial adviser. Depending on your circumstances - what provision does your pension scheme make for dependents? how important is your income to your family? - income protection insurance might be even more important than life insurance.
