I started a new job which requires travelling. I’ve claimed for my miles and lunch sometimes when I’m on business long distance. It was no issue in my last job but other people in this job don’t seem to do it as much and were quite shocked that I did. I don’t take the piss as in my last job people claimed for coffees buns as well as lunch. I’m getting worried I’m seen as unreasonable. My expenses are always approved and I’m always honest and make sure I keep receipts. I don’t go to the most expensive places. I don’t really see what the issue is if you’re allowed to. I am currently pregnant and trying to save as much as I can. It did annoy me as someone had told other people I done this abd now I’m worried I look like a tight asshole

I don’t usually claim for coffee or lunches unless I was taking a customer out.
I wouldn’t let petrol and parking costs go though.

Sometimes it’s annoying to keep receipts and I forget but I’m definitely not tight but I am careful when it comes to money and always pay my bills on time and save etc. it’s just the way I am. I wouldn’t say I’m frugal but I’m not an over spender either. Our policy says you can claim for lunch when on business long distance which I’ve been doing. If im in the office or out on business close to home I obviously don’t. I’ve heard people saying they are out of of pocket 2/300 pounds and sorry but I would not be letting that go.

Take a photo of them at the time, you need photos to upload anyhow so do it at the time and you don't lose them.

Thank you. People in my last job were actually worse tbh where one person actually claimed for their business car insurance on expenses. Obviously it did not get approved. I wouldn’t take the piss with it.

Not to be a curmudgeon, but if it's a work vehicle why could said employee not claim insurance as an expense? (speaking as someone who's so disorganised i never claim my (limited) entitled expenses!)

Because the 45p per mile or whatever the official suggested amount is, is above what it actually cost for the fuel due to it being to cover fuel, wear and tear and insurance.
