I’ve lost a significant amount of weight over last few months by changing my diet.

Now I need to introduce exercise to my life so last Saturday I joined a gym.

On Saturday I went and did a 20 minute beginner weight loss routine on a Technogym treadmill at level 5, followed by a 15 minute swim.

On Monday I did a 30 minute beginner weight loss routine on a Technogym treadmill at level 5.

And did the same again on Wednesday.

The routine is 30-60 second intervals of walking speeds ranging from 3.8 to 6.5 kmh and at different gradients with 3 lots of 7kmh 45 second sprints in the last 20 or so minutes.

Since Wednesday session my right hand side of back above the hip area has been uncomfortable not painful just aware of it.

I had planned to do the same session again today (was hoping to go every other day), but thinking if body is sore it needs to recover or is this something I should push through?

It won’t come as a surprise but I don’t enjoy exercising but I need to for my health but need to come to this sensibly for someone who has a starting point of zero fitness.

AIBU to miss the gym session today and go on Sunday?

Or no pain no gain get in that gym?

So long as you are doing something at least 1-2 times a week I wouldn't stress. I'd find exercise I actually enjoy though, personally hate the gym. Try a class? I like yoga and mini trampolines.

All great advice thank you.

I will take a look at the classes.

There is an aqua class that I like the look of as starter, as feel more hidden, and water hopefully won’t be so impact.

but thank you for the tip that instructors want you to return and really no one is looking or more importantly caring about me in the nicest possible way

I started aqua classes at the beginning of a weight loss journey I still do a couple now. I've tried aqua HIIT, aqua Zumba, aqua fit, aqua aerobics, aqua pilates and deep aqua classes. I still do deep aqua and alternate aqua HIIT and aqua pilates depending on family plans as one is on a Sunday. I have an old back injury and essentially decimated my pelvis in pregnancy. The aqua classes are low impact, I also found a range of ages and sizes and almost all women. Lots of fun and a supportive environment. Seems weird because you think you'd be more conscious in swimwear but no one cares and you're in the water anyway, it also stops you sweating too much! My Fitbit tells me aqua HIIT burns the most calories, but deep aqua and aqua pilates make me ache more and seen to do more for toning and have really improved my core strength and balance.
(I also do spin classes now but they are not the the faint hearted and it took me nearly a year to work up to them!)

Hi OP,
I use the exact same machine and the same programme. I lost 4 st before joining the gym back in March (and have now lost a further 2 st). I started on the same programme and have gradually built it up. I started level 5 at 20 minutes. I didn't increase the time until a good few weeks had passed. What I did at first was 20 mins on the lose weight programme, then some of the weight machines, then if I had the stamina, I'd go back and do another 20 minutes on the treadmill programme. If I didn't - no big deal, I just left it.
I have gradually built it up over 7 months and now do 30 minutes on level 9, followed by 10 mins max incline 5.0 km/h and 1hr 10 of weights and resistance training. I've just experimented until I found what worked for me. If something hurt - give it a rest. I go 3 times a week, it's enough! You don't need to do every other day.
Now it's winter I'm actually nipping in just to use the treadmill to get my steps in when the weather is bad. But I'm not running, I'm just walking.
I started from 0 fitness. My metabolic age was 54. I'm 39. Yesterday my metabolic age was 37. I'm actually winning at this thing now! I hated exercise when I started. I put it off until my weight loss stalled so much that I was forced in to it. I still don't love it. But I can do it! Good luck!

Alternate days are fine, you just need to add some variety. And make sure you are warming up/down properly and lots of stretching at home. Your body/muscles are being used in a way they are not used to, you need to nurture them!
