How can I feel better about myself?

I feel really awful about myself almost all the time. I need to lose weight but am an emotional eater and don't know where to start. I've got quite a lot of clothes that don't fit and I don't want to buy new stuff because I don't like the size I am so I end up wearing joggers and sweatshirts a lot which makes me feel crap too. I need to get my hair cut and dyed but I've never found a hairdresser I love and end up spending loads and feeling mediocre about it. Please help me with ideas, fed up of feeling so bad about myself all the time.

I've just read Alan Carrs Easy Way to quit emotional eating.
I only read it a week ago and I haven't eaten any crap at all. It's only been a week so I can't vouch for it long term but it's got good reviews, which is why I thought I'd try it.
My fingers are crossed rigid, hoping this is my answer.
I've been walking a lot too and taking some vitamin d and b12.

Buy a couple of magazines that seem to have your vibe and then see what clothes they feature and if there are any you like to update your wardrobe a bit.
Drink lots of water - boring but free and helps skin and feeling fuller.
Walk as much as you can. Will lift your mood and helps with metabolism and digestion.
Buy a new nail varnish or get a manicure. Great nails always make you feel more put together.
Have lots of fruit around if you eat out of boredom. Apples have loads of fibre and fill you up.
Have a date or an event in mind that you can work towards looking good for.
Go for it.

It's small steps. .'re the hair why not try your local college that teaches hairdressing. For a fraction of the price you get a student work on your hair on the provision that you accept they are learning...my wife went for years, only stopped because she no longer worked anywhere near a collage. Only once did she get a bad cut and the tutor fixed things. Plus you get good advice, learn how to care for your hair as the tutor talks things through with the student....I once had my hair cut by the world hairdressing champion.

're food. Eat smaller portions, it's amazing how quickly your body/ appetite adjusts...plus stop eating when you are full

Me too.
Im at that age now where everything is looking crap.
About 10lbs overweight, wrinkled , eye bags , grey roots .
The thing is , I really try , I get a salon balayage twice a year , do my roots myself every 3 weeks , wear make up daily , nails are neat and painted neutral.
I try to dress classily , denim / white tee / black blazer etc.
I watch style channels in you tube , follow simple , capsule wardrobe style instagram pages etc
I know what I want to look like but I just don’t look like what I want to in my head if that makes sense .
I feel old , tired and haggard .
I was out at the shops today and passed a mirror and just thought “ god I look shit “

I think what comes across is that you are stuck in a rut and you mention weight first so I’d tackle that - the rest will feed into this as you lose weight you will automatically feel better about yourself.

I am trying to lose weight too - all I can say is getting started is the hard bit - once the weight starts to come off I find that motivation in itself to keep going but it’s about ‘getting in the zone’ mentally first. Could you join slimming world or WW for accountability? That has worked for me in the past.

Good advice from @Marine30 .

I think it's common to not want to buy new clothes now, because one has the hope to lose weight, but it can still be good to buy some clothes that fits now and makes one feel better. Like you yourself write, wearing joggers and sweatshirts most of the time does not make you feel good.

Not saying it's the answer for everyone but Mounjaro weight loss infections have changed my life. 2 months in and a massive change, with so many benefits.

Injections 🤣 not infections.
