Do you actually know when your period is coming?

My periods have always been irregular. Trying to book a smear test at the moment and it’s a bloody nightmare trying to work out when would work and then fit it in with that the surgery actually have available. The period tracker on my phone has just given me the notification ‘your period could come any time in the next two weeks’… bloody helpful that, thanks. I’m often fortunate that ovulation is fairly obvious so I can predict a window of about a week based on that, but if I miss the signs, I’m screwed.

Now wondering how common it actually is to have proper, regular periods within a day or two of predictability?

YABU - My cycle is like clockwork, or thereabouts.
YANBU - My cycles are a guessing game.

I ahve endometriosis, so my cycles in the last 10 months have been 11 days, 16 days, 28 days, 5 days and 14 days.

It really is a nightmare.

owlexpress · 31/10/2024 15:36

I've been on the pill for 16 years because my periods were so irregular as a teen. Haven't had a real period since 2008! A surprising number of my friends seem to be very regular though, with some very irregular.

LoyalGreyScroller · 31/10/2024 15:37

My cycle is like clockwork

GroovyChick87 · 31/10/2024 15:41

Every 26 to 28 days.

IcyLilacZebra · 31/10/2024 15:44

Not exactly because their unreliable and not regular they used to be but that changed I track on a app anyway and always presume it can be either side usually a 24-37 day person

LoremIpsumCici · 31/10/2024 15:45

I’m with you, mine are anywhere between 22days and 53days, thanks to perimenopause.

Hoardasurass · 31/10/2024 15:46

Mines used to be regular as clockwork then I hit the peri menopause and now they come if and when they feel like it

Mb12340 · 31/10/2024 15:46

Yes, as I track ovulation so know it’ll come 15 days after I ovulate.

wheresthebigcarrot · 31/10/2024 15:46

Absolute clockwork. Every 28 days at 5pm. Symptoms getting much worse with age though.

GreyCarpet · 31/10/2024 15:46

Mine are like clockwork. I'm 50 so was hoping I was coming to the end of it but no, the bastard still comes within the same few days every month.

I can reliably predict to within a 48 hrs window when it will start. Like, right now, I think it's due tomorrow.

ZippyDenimBear · 31/10/2024 15:47

Every 28 days, from 13 to now at 47.

I have pmdd tho, so am in misery for a week before I come on, a quarter of my life lost in many ways.

I arrange my whole life around when I come on, so being regular is the one good thing about my period.

Sorry for all the problems being irregular brings. It's all a pigging nightmare being a woman in many ways.

GreyCarpet · 31/10/2024 15:47

I can still tell when I've ovulated, too.

BeatsAntique · 31/10/2024 15:47

You’re not alone. Mine can be anywhere between 26 and 46 days, has been since they started.

I have endo too, but oddly my cycles are exactly every 29 days. Never differs.

HappyAsASandboy · 31/10/2024 15:50

My cycle has always been like clockwork. 26 - 28 day cycle, with a few anomalies along the way. But in general, I can rely on it being every 26-28 days.

dragonmummy17 · 31/10/2024 15:52

Mine used to be regular around 24-25 days
Then I hit 40. Longest cycle in the last 3 years was over 100 days, shortest 14. Totally unpredictable

soberfabulous · 31/10/2024 15:53

Like absolute clockwork. I'm 48 and was hoping they'd start slowing down soon but not so far.

Dotto · 31/10/2024 15:57

Most people are regular, and even with irregular people, the proliferation phase (pre-ov) is the most irregular part ('wandering ovulation') rather than the lutel phase (post-ov) which tends to be fixed to 14-16 days.

You can also do home tests now for HPV, instead of attending a surgery, for those who prefer.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 31/10/2024 15:57

Mine are like clockwork usually. They were a bit unpredictable for a while after I had a baby but seemed to have gone back to normal now. There’s about a 4 day window each month when my period could come. Anything outside of this is unusual.

BingoFucklinger · 31/10/2024 15:58

Mine were all over the place (anywhere from 17-61 days) until I had kids and now they're like clockwork. Bodies are weird!

What a pain for you though. It's hard enough booking a test at the right time with a regular cycle!

Imnotarestaurant · 31/10/2024 16:00

I’ve only had regular periods (28-30 days) in the last 4 years (I’m 40 now). For most of my adult life I was either on the pill or had very irregular periods.

mine were the same for 15 years then suddenly, it's random af.

Mrsttcno1 · 31/10/2024 16:02

Mine are literally exactly 28 days every time, obviously no periods when I was pregnant with my daughter but my first period after birth was 29 days after I gave birth, despite breastfeeding, and they’ve been back to every 28 days ever since😂

coffeesaveslives · 31/10/2024 16:03

Mine are like clockwork, always have been.

Gowlett · 31/10/2024 16:05

They were fairly reliable, every 28 or so days.
Peri-menopause now, they’re like buses…
