to wish my inlaws hadn't bought my daughter a giant fricken duck?

Well alright, it's always unreasonable to complain about presents. I know.

But c'mon.

The poor child has never expressed any particular duck fetish, and between them they have now bought her 11 soft toy ducks. Three are not much smaller than her. 4 are duplicates (because they forget they've already bought her that particular duck).

It's her second birthday soon. A parcel arrives. The box is a meter square. I open it up for a sneak peak late last night and guess what it is?

Oh yes.

Because every family needs a fricken meter high stuffed duck.

Oh well, at least we have an enormous mansion to keep it in... oh no wait, we live in a small semi.

Oh well, at least there aren't lots of other useful things they could have spent the money on... oh no wait...

I remember once someone bought me a teddy when I was about 18 or something. I didn't want to hurt their feelings so I kept it. Someone else saw it, thought I liked bears, and bought me another one. Before long I had a about a dozen of the frigging things. I tell you this as a timely warning.

Before your house becomes a duck museum.

Oh fizzledizzle, that's sweet. My Dad had a similar childhood it would seem and was never allowed a selection box at Christmas (a waste of money) or a knickerbocker glory (ditto). He wasn't allowed a lot of things, like affection for example but it's funny the things that stick in your head. He still buys me a selection box every year and I'm 27. He will do the same for dd and I know he's desperate for her to have a knickerbocker glory (she's 11 months so not just yet!)

Broccoli, maybe your ILs were denied enormous ducks as children.

What's a selection box, that you get at christmas? Sorry to be dim.
And do you mean the ice-cream knickerbocker glory? I'm very confused!

i have the same problem, i say every year no stuff animals.. but nooooo another one to add to the pile.

the worst thing is the kids dont play with them, so they just attract dust, and look awful!
