To feel a bit disappointed?

For context I was fairly happy in my previous company, but fell out of love with my role. Then a round of promotions happened and I was snubbed. My new manager was a micromanager so decided to leave. (There were also two formal complaints against her so it wasn't just me).

I took a job that looked interesting but they definitely didn't need me and felt I was going to be made redundant at any given time. There were a few waves of redundancy and the CRO has been accused of sleeping around with his employees (so you get an idea of how it was).

Fortunately I found a job in my industry and were super keen to take me on. I even negotiated becoming a manager! (Something I had been trying to get back into). However, the management side of it at times seems like I'm just being a deputy manager and my now boss just keeps piling workload on her instead of delegating it to me. She even tells my colleagues one thing and me a different one.

She even admitted herself yesterday (in conversation) that delegating is definitely not her forte, so I know that I shouldn't take it personally.

I'm still disappointed because I don't feel I'm being let to do my job!

That's three jobs in a row you've not been happy in.

Are you in the right field?

I'm in the right field (or sector)! I was happy in my previous company (I actually didn't want to leave).

I would be VERY happy if they'd let me do my job. Otherwise I'm just plain happy with a sprinkle of disappointment.

The middle job had nothing to do with the other two.

I don't mean this to come across as harsh, OP, but if you want to be a manager and you were hired to be one, you need to start acting like one. Have you spoken to your boss about these issues? How much autonomy do you have in your role? Have you identified issues, considered solutions and then said, 'I've noticed x and y, resulting in z. I'm planning to implement [detail changes], to improve e.g. efficiency, time keeping, customer service etc. What are your thoughts on this?'

If your boss has admitted they don't delegate well, don't wait for them to delegate. Have a regular catch up and suggest you take a certain number of things off her plate.

Your manager has admitted she doesn't delegate well, which is a golden opportunity for you to discuss your role and come up with something that works. Not saying that you are not generally good in your field at which you are obviously experienced, but the tone of your posts is quite passive and complaining and perhaps this gets in the way of being an effective manager?

I have (not super regularly) but the time I've been more proactive she's told me they don't do things like how I'm used to.

They did tell me they wouldn't give me any management responsibilities until after 90 days.

I do think I'll take more of an admin/process management role going forward. Which is fine by me.
